A Fine Line [edit]

I hate being in this position. I have friends (some new, some old) who are borderline and I am stuck in between getting closer to them or not.

I’m sure you know what I mean. The new friend that you like a lot, but has so much baggage they need U Haul. The new friend that dropped you because you didn’t want YOUR business spread all over Decatur. The old friend that you’ve found again that has no idea just how tiring/not fun it is to hang with him/her due to his/her compromised situation. The old friend that you distanced yourself from yet you like a lot and wouldn’t mind getting closer to again – IF it weren’t for the same old baggage and drama that ran you off the first time still being in full effect.

If you aren’t incensed

…then you are NOT paying attention. Wil Wheaton has written a wonderfully well rounded article about the REAL ID card that is being quietly pushed thru the legislative process, unbeknownst to the sheeple who mill around this country.

Why is it still OK for the fascists who run this country to slip all sorts of legislation through on the back of legitimate bills? WHY? I think it’s ludicrous to allow such deception, yet it happens every single day in Washington DC.

Where is OUR say? I’ll tell you where: locked up in the confines of a government of rich white men who reelect themselves to office because the sheeple of this country can’t be bothered to keep up with what’s going on, much less VOTE. If you don’t vote, you give away everything this country stands for, period. You give up your privacy for REAL IDs, your civil liberties for the PATRIOT ACT, your money for more and more taxation, your quality of life for the rampant pollution spewed by rich corporations who pay the legislature for the right to do as they please (ever heard of lobbyists?).

I worry for this country. I hope that my generation will get off their collective ass and DO something to stop this country from falling into the abyss of theocracy and corporate control. I vote and I write my reps and senators. Do YOU? It’s not much, but if everyone would do it, perhaps we’d get some change.

Change is good, right?

Damn, there is change and then there is change. As for us, our change of the moment is that we’ve decided to try a somewhat stripped down version of Oprah’s Bootcamp in an attempt to be somewhat shapely for DragonCon. We’re not doing the hour a day workouts, we’re doing half hours to start (an hour would literally KILL us) and we’re doing at least 15 minutes of art every night. We figure with the food changes, the getting up earlier and the art thing, that’s enough change for this week!

Our friends are in the midst of changes of their own. The energy swirling around our group right now is impressive! We’ve got new liasons, breakups, weight changes, job changes, new homes and probably other stuff I can’t think of right now. We have some friends who are trying to move back here from out of state who may or may not decide to join our group, but I think they should, simply to be around this energy. It’s got some ass behind it, that’s for sure!

While I like the idea of change, I usually find it hard to stick to changes such as the ones we’re trying: diet, exercise, no alcohol, etc. But I’m hoping that with all the rampant energy around these days, I’ll be able to siphon off enough to get me through the horror of Boot Camp.

Wish us luck with it. I know we’ll need it!

Browser Stats

For those of you who don’t think Firefox is making gains on that tired old MicroSux browser, behold, my current browser stats:

Browser shares in 05
Browser shares in 05

Looks to me like Firefox has encroached on Safari’s share for Mac users as well, since the Safari stats have dropped a bit in the last few months. Now, if they’d separate Firefox Mac from Firefox PC I could really get an idea of who’s using what.

It is the policy here at Misangela.com to delete and/or edit any comments that meet the following criteria:
1. anonymous post
2. off topic post
3. extremely long post
4. blog hijacking post (using my blog to push the poster’s agenda)
5. stupid ass post (the catch all for stuff within my discretion)

Comments are encouraged here at Misangela.com, as long as they don’t violate the above rules. I don’t mind flames as long as they are accompanied by a valid email address and/or URL. If you dish it, you should be able to take it.

I have avoided using registrations or other means of controlling posting in an effort to encourage comments, however, I can change that if the spambots get too intense or the lurkers continue to post anonymously. Lurkers can lurk as long as they don’t violate the above rules, which then makes them spammers.

Thank you for your cooperation.
