…then you are NOT paying attention. Wil Wheaton has written a wonderfully well rounded article about the REAL ID card that is being quietly pushed thru the legislative process, unbeknownst to the sheeple who mill around this country.
Why is it still OK for the fascists who run this country to slip all sorts of legislation through on the back of legitimate bills? WHY? I think it’s ludicrous to allow such deception, yet it happens every single day in Washington DC.
Where is OUR say? I’ll tell you where: locked up in the confines of a government of rich white men who reelect themselves to office because the sheeple of this country can’t be bothered to keep up with what’s going on, much less VOTE. If you don’t vote, you give away everything this country stands for, period. You give up your privacy for REAL IDs, your civil liberties for the PATRIOT ACT, your money for more and more taxation, your quality of life for the rampant pollution spewed by rich corporations who pay the legislature for the right to do as they please (ever heard of lobbyists?).
I worry for this country. I hope that my generation will get off their collective ass and DO something to stop this country from falling into the abyss of theocracy and corporate control. I vote and I write my reps and senators. Do YOU? It’s not much, but if everyone would do it, perhaps we’d get some change.
I am in France and we have been using ID cards all for years. Why is it such an issue in the states ?

As for the ruckus about the cards, it’s a big deal because we already have drivers’ licenses AND Social Security Numbers AND passports. The SSN has been abused beyond all belief and is currently the way the government tracks us. The US does NOT need yet another ID card. The government is already involved in too many of our personal affairs as it is.
The current regime wants to control what we do with our bodies as well as what religion we are, what we type in our blogs, who we call on the phone and many other things that is none of their damn business. Whether I smoke, get an abortion, say that Dubya is a fucker or am not a Christian is certainly not the government’s affair. Period.

I’m NOT fishing for your email address, I really don’t give a shit what it is, I just get very leery of people who post without giving contact info, that’s all.
It’s been my experience (unfortunately) that posters who refuse to give info about themselves are typically the ones who feel that it’s ok to abuse the right to comment in others’ blogs.
I’m NOT saying that YOU fit that profile, not at all, I’m just explaining why I asked for your contact info. If you had a blog, you’d understand my trepidation!

After finishing a recent senior-level class at a highly prestigious college, I have found that the government of the United States separates the public into two groups, the informed and the general public. The informed public are the ones who know what is going on in both the local and federal government. The other “general” public consists of those individuals who don’t take the time to find out what the fuck is really going on. So, if you wish to be categorized by the US gov’t. as uninformed, go right ahead. As for me, well, I give a FUCK. Dubyah can bite my big furry white ass.
