Big weekend

We’ve had quite the weekend so far – it’s not over for us today since it’s Nick’s Monday off week. Yay!

Friday Nick made me some yummy pork loin for dinner and we mostly just chilled out. Yesterday we braved the Farmer’s Market (and made it out unscathed!!) then went out to an art opening at Youngblood and the sKill Jill benefit at Lenny’s. The opening was OK – the artist is a tattoo artist and that’s what the art looked like: flash art. Lenny’s was fun, but not very many made it out to the benefit, sadly. Kate met us there and we hung out and drank beer/shots until after midnight. How our tab was $15, I’ll never know, but I’ll take it! LOL Kate came back here with us and we stayed up until about 3am talking.

We slept in a bit today, of course, then Nick fixed the leaky bathroom drain (which naturally required a trip to Home Despot) and I started working on Ted’s site. OMG. What a clusterfuck. We have reinstalled Gallery and I *think* it’s running OK, but the WordPress template he is using sucks out loud. He’s trying to use graphics with the sidebar, which means we can’t use widgets (afaik, widgets can’t have header graphics) and the Gallery plugin is blowing up spectacularly. Without widgets, what’s the point of a WP template? We’re still picking at the php, trying to hack it, but we are NOT programmers and frankly, I’ve got other things to do besides sit and try to reprogram a WP template. Hopefully Ted will give up his header graphics without much fuss – hell, this gig looks like it’s gonna be a bitch anyway with Gallery simply REFUSING to cooperate. ::sigh::

We’ll be at the Decatur Drink and Draw at Mellow Mushroom tomorrow – hope to see you there! Don’t forget Atlanta Cartoonists is next Monday (Aug 10) at Manuel’s Tavern, 7pm.

Weasely updates

I’ve been quiet lately because I’ve been busy with some changes we’ve made around Casa Mizgala. Guess I’ll just go down the list, but first, we got tweeted by Dog Eat Doug today. SQUEEE!!! He retweets many comics, but it’s still an honour to get noticed! Here’s the Twitter window:

And here’s a new fan because of DeD’s RT:

More Twitter funneh

Ok, so I used to think that Twitter was the dumbest thing out there. Things change. Twitter was marketed with the tagline “What are you doing?” and it began with a bunch of vapid hipsters texting (tweeting) about their mochaccino from Starbucks or how bored they were via their cell phones.

FF one year later and it’s running 24/7 on my desktop. Not just ONE account, but TWO. (One for me @misangela and one for Atlanta Cartoonists @atlcartoonists. Nick has @thinkweasel.)

Why you ask? Well, I’ll tell you: Twitter is one of the best promotion and commentary apps I’ve ever seen. What began as a navel gazing little distraction for texters has morphed into a way for artists, writers, musicians and businesses of all kinds to stay in close contact with customers. I’ve got feeds from writers, artists, restaurants, pubs, webcomics, comic publishers, you name it. I am cultivating relationships with comics people whom I rarely see but I stay in touch with via Twitter. Really.

But, this post is not to advertise for Twitter, it’s to share a funny exchange between Scott Kurtz and Kris Straub (read from bottom UP):

Bwahahahaha!
Bwahahahaha!

See what you’re missing? ;-)

A tweet from Gaiman!

I’ve just had a nerdgasm! I got a RE from Neil Gaiman (yes, THE Gaiman) about a pic he posted today on twitpic. Here is the twitter window (twhirl, actually):

OMG, I got a tweet from GAIMAN!!
OMG, I got a tweet from GAIMAN!!

In case any of you were wondering, YES I AM A BIG OLE NERD. But you should know that by now! SQUEE! Gaiman! ::swoon::

Happy Friday off!

Many have the day off for Good Friday, which makes this a VERY happy Friday for them! W00t!

I’m set to go to lunch with Stormy then we’re going to the Paul Mitchell school over off of Howell Mill to get our hares cut. I’m going back to a pixie, I think, unless the hair burner has a better idea. Of course there’s 90% chance of thunderstorms at precisely the time we’ll be out. Natch. :-/ Good thing Stormy’s driving. I could NOT tolerate Friday traffic on the wrong side of I-75 in pouring rain. Hopefully the holiday will ease traffic.

Then, still with a 90% chance of thunderstorms, we have to go to Quinn’s birthday party over at The Atlanta Fish Market on Pharr Rd. I can tell you one thing: we won’t be out late. It’s gonna be a long day and with that, I must get it started.

Oh, one more thing: I’m trying out TweetDeck today. So far I give it a 7 out of 10. But its popping up when there’s a tweet is very annoying. And it’s too big. The functionality seems pretty good. Ah, just realised: it only pops to the front when you have it hidden. If you use the yellow ‘put in dock’ button, it does not pop (odd). I also don’t like that the notifications don’t TELL you anything. Twhirl gave you the actual tweet, so you could skim it and keep doing what you’re doing, but did not update FB. ::shrug:: We’ll see who wins the Find the Best Twitter Client game. :-)
