Yet another reason

… to NOT upgrade MT. If Wil Wheaton can’t do it, then I certainly can’t! Besides, you don’t “upgrade” MT, you reinstall it and then hope to the gods of cgi, php and MT that your crap will import. Even if it does, then you still have to redo all your CSS by hand. ::shudder:: In other words, it’s just like the first time you painstakingly installed the shite, but with the added stress of losing all your frelling entries and/or frelling your database. Nice!

Nawp, I think I’ll just be a luddite and stay with this “old, crappy” version of MT that works like a champ and has given me no issues thus far.

Everybody is hollering about how great WordPress is, but again, I’d have to redo every single thing, plus pray that my entries make it through the import.

I ain’t got time!

Since the lurkers seem to think that it’s only I who cannot stand the WinTel hegemony, try reading these entries from an EX-longtime peecee user who switched to Mac:

More of why I use Mac

[This should be titled: “How to get PC trolls to leave anonymous comments”]

I know everyone thinks I’m totally irrational about my devotion to Macs. The MicroSith drones think that anyone who shuns the Dark Side of the Force must be stupid, non-techie, dense or a slobbering fanatic to a “dying platform”. Yah, right.

Well, I can sum up my devotion to my platform of choice in 3 words:

It just works.

I can do anything a MicroSith user can do. I spend about 5 minutes a week on maintenance (that would be a RESTART with the occasional run of Cocktail). My Mac hasn’t melted down in, uuummm… Well, I guess never. No virii. No spyware. No paying for Norton or McAfee.

Who are really the dumb ones? To me, it’s pretty obvious that I get shit done rather than fucking around with the OS trying to convince it to run. I also don’t spend money on antivirus subscriptions and hours of my time futzing. So, if that’s dumb then I guess I qualify.

IBook madness!

Good gods, people are CRAZY! As several of you have pointed out to me, the VA iBook sale went horribly awry last week!

Now I’m damn glad that we were ineligible! I mean a deal is a deal, but they’re JUST iBooks! Geeze!

It makes the trip to Charleston all the more sweet to know that we were having a fabulous time rather than being beaten to death for a frelling computer.

I forgot about this

There is a groovy service that’s been around quite a while but I’ve not used it in such a long time I’d forgotten it. It’s called Return Path and it’s really cool for those of us who have had numerous emails in the past.

I think they charge you to actually forward your emails, but you can register in the system for free. You put in several of your old emails and companies or individuals can find you if they look hard enough.

I’ve had a few companies find me via Return Path: Orbitz, Delta, a coupla others. I’ve also had a spam list try to find me as well. It’s cool because Return Path will send you an email if someone requests your new address and you can decline or accept giving it to them. Slick!

Anyway, I don’t know how much the full fledged service costs and for individuals you should be able to forward your own mail, but it could be good for businesses who are migrating to new addresses.
