Heroes Con FTW!

Ok, let me tell all the comic nerds (readers, writers, artists, whatever): GO TO HEROES CON NEXT YEAR. If it’s the only con you attend, GO. We had the most amazing time. It was so great that I am still a bit agog trying to process it all. The organisers are awesome, the attendees are awesome, everyone there was truly off the hook with the nice and helpful. VERY SUPPORTIVE!

Highlights:
– We were INTERVIEWED!! Comic Related does podcasts to spotlight up and coming artists and offers a wonderful support system for artists like us who are trying to get a leg up. [Comic Related was retired, sadly. -A 2017]

– We met so many wonderful people it’s all a blur! First, a shout out to two lovely ladies that made us feel welcome as soon as we walked into the dealers room: Karalyn and Krystalanna! Great to meet you both! Can’t wait until next year!

– Super duper extra special shout out to Comic Related. You guys made us feel so at ease and welcomed. We are still on cloud nine from the interview and we THANK YOU so much for the opportunity. You totally RAWK!! :-)

I can’t say enough about this convention. The support and camaraderie there really makes you believe that you can do it (whatever “it” is). We are bursting at the seams with positive feedback and the feeling that there really are people out there who want to help us get known.

I’m just rambling now, so I’ll stop here, but you’ll hear more about this con as I process all the input we got this weekend. We will be at a table next year. And we cannot WAIT. :-)

Free Comic Book Day 09!

We are finishing up some stuff and getting ready to head out to FCBD! Go to your local comic shop to get your free comics!

If you’d like a ThinkWeasel! Sampler, just email me and I’ll get one to you.

We’ll be at Criminal Records and Comics at 2:30pm today to introduce the Atlanta Cartoonists meetup group. There’s a sign up sheet if you miss us!

After the FCBD festivities, we’ll be at the Vortex for Heather’s birthday party @ 6pm. We’ll probably be upstairs if you meet us there.

That’s it! Gotta jet! Hope to see you in L5P!

Atlanta Cartoonists/Web Comics

We are starting a meetup group for anyone interested in the comics business – either hand drawn or web comics – or both. This group will meet monthly (hopefully) at various venues around town. I will line up a speaker or at least have a theme for each meeting. I hope to get started in June!

Please join us at Criminal Records in L5P for Free Comic Book Day, Saturday May 2nd. We will do our meet n greet around 2-3pm. There will be a sign up sheet at Criminal at the Comics desk, so please sign up when you get your free comics.

Feel free to email me (misangela at telepath dot com) if you have any questions or want me to put you on the list via email. :-)

Wil Con 09 aka Phoenix Comic Con

I can see why Wil Wheaton loves this con so much… Um, probably because he’s the Main Attraction! Ha! His panels were too big for the venue, sadly. It was two distinct cons in one; Wil Con, which attracted the comic and sci fi nerds and Squee Con which attracted the Anime Kids. The Anime side of the con had an average age of, oh, 15. Yah. Veeeery irritating after 3 days.

This con is really great overall and I highly recommend it to artists (comic and otherwise). It’s small enough to be intimate and big enough to actually support the cost of a table. Behemoth cons such as San Diego charge so much that making a profit after paying for the booth is highly unlikely. The vendors seemed to have had a very successful con and our pals James and Becky (Little Vampires) said that this is the first con that they’ve made a profit. W00t! BIG SHOUT OUT to Becky and James! They RAWK!

I’d also like to link to Daniel of Monster Commute. He not only makes BEAUTIFUL comics (Monster Haiku!!! Klawberry!!!), he hosts a mean panel! Other panelists should learn from his organised approach. He lives in Phoenix and he a definitely a mover and shaker. You’ll be seeing much more from him in the future.

Nick has posted some video clips of Wheaton and Marina Sirtis as well as some pix for your enjoyment. I think you’ll find them linked from his blog.

Ok, I’ve got to post and log out – ITX is trying to troubleshoot my database sluggishness.
