ACE Atlanta 08

Eh.

The con was smaller this year than last (which puzzles me) and the guest list was severely anemic. I was hoping for more. We did attend an excellent panel with Terminus Media on Sunday.  We also met  some cool guys from Sidebar Nation. We hope to perhaps offer our expertise to the con itself for a panel or whatever they like next year. We’ll see.

We bought a really cool pinup from Tyson McAdoo. He’s a very nice guy and I love his art. We didn’t have the cash last year, but this year: yah! :-)

This con has a ton of potential. I really hope it can bring together the various art groups, comic artists, pop art artists and other crazy art people in this town.  I think if they can pull that off, this will be the preeminent art show in the SE. That is what we really need around here!

I’ve got my fingers crossed! [Update: sadly, ACE succumbed to that Con Killer DragonCon and is no more. Let’s hope DragonCon gets sued and dies so we can get some good cons going instead. See related DC post. – A]

Politics and Friday catch-all

Op-ed is always such an inspiration for blogging…

First: NO, the evangelical Christians DID NOT overly influence the Huckabee win in GA. The evangelical votes were fairly evenly spread. It was the FairTax voters, dumbasses! The media (AND the Op-Ed of the AJC) keeps perpetuating this myth. Don’t buy it.

Next: Awww, poor Cynthia McKinney didn’t get to represent the Greens (aka Kool Aid Drinkers) for prez. Damn, you know you’re a nutbag when even the nutbags won’t vote for ya! LOL

Next: One of my favourite Spanish profs from GSU died last week. José Montero was such a nice man! He had a Spanish accent (as opposed to Mexican or Argentinian) and his dictations were the hardest ever! I also saw that the hottie prof from back in the day, Fernando Reati, is now the Dept Head. Good job!

Next: A single password for all your crap? I think NOT. Yah, I want fucking Microsoft and Verisign to handle all my personal info. Gods, what the hell are they thinking? The truly sad part is that most dumbass people who use the ‘net will probably jump on this like white on rice… OpenID Foundation just wants in ur info so they can pwn ur life. Wake up, people, you NEVER want ONE entity to control all your sensitive info. EVER.

This will be a busy weekend for us. We’ve got ACE (which we missed the first day of today, eh, not that we’re missing much…) and Van Halen on Sunday w00t! Monday we’ll be doing our thang at Vortex. Ah, it’s nice to be home!

Superbowl 42! Wow!

I was SO rooting for the Patriots! It was a sad, sad loss. I really hate that they lost the ‘bowl and didn’t get a perfect season. I only got to see the last quarter, but that’s when it happened. I’m very happy for Eli Manning, tho. As you may or may not know, Eli’s big brother Peyton played for Tennessee in college, so he’s famous to me for that. Eli played for Mississippi in college.

So, although I was really wanting the Patriots to get the perfect season, I’m happy for the Mannings and I think the Pats played a great game.

Worky work

Things on the work front are looking up! I think Rob is ready to pursue our idea of a restaurant consulting biz – but not big corporate places, more small owner/operator family run type stores. I think it’ll be great fun and I know it’ll feel great to help out a struggling owner get their store running again. He’s gonna do the operations and I’m gonna do administrative, graphic/web design and other marketing stuff.

I’ll be a little hard to get ahold of for a week or so – got some business to attend to. Email me if you need me. :-)

RIP Heath Ledger, et. al.

What a shock! Heath Ledger of Brokeback Mountain fame died in his NY apartment on Tuesday. It’s most likely an accidental overdose and Ambien is involved, so I’ll bet that nasty drug has something to do with it.

Brad Renfro died of an overdose last week. Suzanne Pleshette of Bob Newhart fame also died last week.

Guess it’s not a good month to be a celebrity. :-/
