Holmes Comet pic

Here’s another shot of the Holmes comet! It’s at APOD and you can even zoom in on the pic! How cool is that?

The comet is currently still expanding and is visually about 1/3 the size of the full moon. Wow! (Physically it’s about as big as Jupiter, I think.)

Get into your yard and check this out tonite. Stand facing NE. Find the Pleiades (7 Sisters) which will be about 3/4 of the way directly overhead then scan the sky to the left to find the Perseus constellation. Before you figure out which is Perseus you’ll see this very bright thing that looks rather like a distant airplane headlight or a planet. That would be Holmes-Allen.

Go ahead and get your geek on! I won’t tell… ;-)

Stressed out!

Ok, so the Moon transition is making me SO stressed out. The new people haven’t even had the place a WEEK yet and they are remodeling. Which wouldn’t be so bad except that it is now Greek tile and mirrors on the goddam walls with the retro 50s lamps and such still hanging…

JUST DAMN.

I’m thinking this gig will be very short. I just don’t think I can handle watching this thing be dismantled by people who don’t even know that they are ruining it. It’s just too disappointing. I’ve put 5 years of my life into this place and it hurts like a motherfucker to watch them completely trample the concept.

What the really retarded part is: why did they pay this huh-YOOGE chunk of money for the concept in the first fucking place if they are going to disregard it? Hmm? WHY? It makes no sense whatsoever.

So, yes, it’s Friday, I’m stressed out and now I shall drink.

Cheers!

Holmes-Allen Comet Alert!

[Cross posted on LJ since this is SO COOL!! ]

For those geeks out there like me who love astronomical events, there’s a great comet viewing opportunity this week: the Holmes comet. It’s naked eye bright (even IN the city!!) in the NE sky to the left of the Pleiades (7 Sisters), in the Perseus constellation. I suggest getting a free Sky and Telescope account to get a customized sky map to help you locate it. http://www.skyandtelescope.com

It’s bright lil sucker! When you find a really bright twinkling object in the NE sky, that’s most likely it. If you have some binoculars, use ’em for a bit of a close up!

Here’s a plain sky map if that will work for you: http://spaceweather.com/images2007/24oct07/skymap_north_holmes.gif

I happened to click on the Astronomy Pic of the day and there’s a big stir about the Holmes comet right now because it had an “outburst” – basically it sort of swelled up. Here’s the pic of what happened over at APOD: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/image/0710/holmes_allen_big.gif

And the explanation of the whole thing: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap071026.html

Yes, I’m a GEEK!

Enjoy the comet!

Things are heating up

And I don’t mean like CA where Andy and Ellen are trying to avoid the damn fires! They are fine, btw, they live in an area that was missed by the Witch fire.

In other news, I’m up to my asshole in work. Feast or famine, I tell you! Oracle is a mess this time with corrections and botched ads all over the place. It’s gonna take me longer to put it up than usual. On top of all that, the restaurant is changing hands MONDAY so I’ve got to write letters and calculate partial payments and all that by Monday. Great. Guess my Friday to get ready for the party will be Nick’s Friday to get ready for the party. I’ll have to work! And of course all this nicely coincides with that bitch Aunt Flo. ARGH!

I also have to prepare for a meeting with the new owners, the Greeks by Friday. I’ve got to have at least a vague outline of what I can do for them and what I can’t. They still have their hearts set on me doing the billing for them, but there are going to be some rules, mothafuckahs, and if they can’t comply with MY way of doing things, it won’t work, period. I told them that today.

If this pans out the way I’d like, I’ll be the web and graphics wench and that’s all. But I don’t think that’s gonna happen until next year. I’ve got the feeling I’ll be needed for the payroll and all that for Decatur until then. Well, that’s fine, but they’ll PAY me, dammit. No more of the $12/hr shit. Nope, it’ll be $20 or thereabouts. In any case, I’ve got to put together proposals for redoing the website and continuing with the graphics as well as a proposal/plan for establishing a corporate office for them. I don’t want to RUN the office, mind you, but I’ll damn sure charge them a nice sum to do the footwork to set it up and line up vendors and hire a competent office manager as a project. I think if it’s handled as a project with an end date and set fees it’ll work better for me all round. There is another project as well, their operations manuals that they will need down the road. Since I can do the layout and get them printed, I’m the logical choice for that HUGE task. David can do the writing and I can do the layout. Lots of money to be made if I play my cards right.

I’m not taking on any new clients until all this shit planes out. Oracle has all these ideas that they want to do and they are the only active web client I have, so I’ll keep them going and the rest of my time will be taken up by closing out Rob’s stuff and setting up the Greeks. There is a LOT of paperwork to be done. And a LOT of phone work, too.

I can’t think too much about it right now, my head will explode if I do! It’s the kind of thing that you must take one step at a time or you’ll go crazy! And yes, I’m aware that crazy is a very short drive for me!! :-)

PSA for Intown East Side Pet Owners [updated]

UPDATE: Just opened, as of October 2013, St Francis Specialists have gone 24 Hr Emergency as well. Dr Smallwood is DJ’s vet, so I have to recommend them above and beyond ALL OTHER clinics! The docs there rock and I totally trust them. Great people and a great clinic!

Original post:
I just discovered that we now have an Emergency Vet Clinic in Downtown Decatur!! Now we don’t have to drive 30 minutes to the Dekalb-Gwinnett center when our pets are hurt. What an AWESOME THING!!
