It’s been a SHIT week for pets. I am rewriting this post to cover all three lovely pets that were lost in the last week or so. All three had to be put down by their families. It sucked.
1. Nigel. Caroline’s cat Nigel, who was at least 25 years old, finally succumbed to kidney failure. He really did fart dust, that one. He was a true curmudgeon and I am honoured to have known him.
2. Marmalade. Russ’s cat for 15 years. He was huge (27#) and orange and had lots of attitude. He had his own pet, a furball cat named Ash. Marmie was a cool cat. He died of complications from a tumour and FLS.
3. Cindy. My mom’s little beagle/jack russell mix dog, 15 years old. Cindy had benign tumours all over her body – outside and in. Poor thing. She also had severe arthritis and got so she could not get up and down any more. She got progressively worse this week and got “the look” yesterday. My mom had to make the call today.
So, it’s been a pretty sucky week all round. I wish everyone a healing weekend. Gods know we need it.
We spent all day at the Vortex drinking away our stress and when we got back around 9:30 tonite, we hear scratching on the door…
YES, it was our lil fucker DJ, acting normal as hell. BASTARD!
He’s none the worse for wear and totally nonchalant about making me CRAZY for 2 days.
Damn cat.
I’m SO glad he’s home. Now I want to pinch his little HEAD OFF!
::sigh:: Such is the life of a kitty mama.
I did find out tonite that Marmalade, Russ’ cat is very ill and at the kitty emergency room. Let’s hope he survives. He’s a very sick kitty. :-(
We had a Flash Party™ with Emily friday night and we were up all night being loud and drunk. DJ got pissed off and demanded to go out around 3 or 4am. I let him out. We’ve not seen him since. :-(
This is the trade off with cats – especially indoor/outdoor cats: they come and GO as they please. Every cat I’ve had has stayed gone for a couple of days at a time, typically with no ill effects other than me wanting to pinch their little heads off when they come back.
But then we had the Missy incident a while back (She was trapped in the neighbor’s basement then injured herself when she climbed the fence back to here.) which now makes me very nervous when they go AWOL. Bernie will disappear for a couple of days at a time occasionally, but DJ doesn’t usually do that. He might stay gone for a day, but his tummy usually brings him back home pretty quick.
I’ve got a bad feeling that he might not come back. We walked around today calling for him and checking out his usual hidey holes to no avail.
In this neighborhood, there is a legitimate worry about Ghetto Dwellaz popping a cap in my cat for no reason other than him being there. Or trapping him and feeding him to the goddam pit bulls to “make them be good guard dogs”. Yah.
::sigh::
I hope he’s just being a butthead and he strolls up tonite around 6pm for dinner. If he doesn’t, I think I’ll start preparing for the worst. ::sniffle::
[And that’s what he did and continues to do, which is why he is now trapped in the backyard. Unfortunately Bernadette never returned last year (Jun 08). 6/09 -A]

When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece.

I think Nick and I understand this but have not been able to put it into words. Thanks Mr Ruskin! :-)
