I don’t know how the hell this got past me, but the First Lady of Star Trek died on Dec 18 2008 at the age of 76. She died peacefully in her sleep with family around. She had leukemia. Her funeral was held yesterday in Los Angeles. This article has more info about Majel as well as the charities they’d like fans to donate to in her name.
OR you could make contributions to your local shelters to help your local displaced pets.
It’s a sad time for Star Trek fans. Now there is no one to hold the reigns. If the trailers of the JJ Abrams atrocity are any indication, I’d say we’ve seen the last of decent Star Trek productions. The franchise will never be the same. :-(

holy shit…this got past me as well..I feel like such a bad nerd
One of my greatest con memories was back in early nineties when I and a half dozen other folk got to sit with Majel in the hotel bar down at the now Sheraton in College Park(hotel connected to the GA Intl Convention Center)…bar folk were nice enough to stay open way past normal closing so we could talk with her…
Dont think she had that strong a hand on the franchise for a while(no thanks to Bermanga)…she stepped away a few years back and let son Roddy(Gene Jr.) carry on the family biz…
unsure on how JJ will do with Trek…reserving judgement till the film comes out…I still recall what he planned to do with Superman, so not getting hopes too high….
from what geroge takei and walter koenig have said, its going to be a great one.
