Yah, yah, PeeCee fanatics can just skip this one. The guy who wrote an [Feb 09 update: this blog has disappeared.] article about the real value of Mac ownership is a professional security consultant and makes his living dealing with hacks, malware, virii, etc. I just love it when I can find info from neutral parties – or better yet, PeeCee pros like this guy – who totally sing the praises of Mac ownership and what a good investment a Mac is. You pay on the front end with Mac, but then you’re pretty much done. That $400 PeeCee will cost you more than that $1200 Mac by the time you add in the necessities like virus protection and hours of support and the inevitable rebuilds. Not to mention that MSOffice is twice as expensive for PeeCees than Macs.
Macs are the better investment for individuals AND enterprise solutions. Listen to the Security Professional! :-)
PeeCees are ubiquitous because they are embedded in offices everywhere. They remain embedded because there is a multi-billion dollar industry in place to support said peecees. If the market shifted to Mac, it would render a whole industry useless. Who’d buy Symantec products? Who’d need all that support staff to perform the endless patching, updating virii software, cleaning malware, removing spyware and rebuilding of peecees? Who’d need to employ security specialists who do nothing but try to stave off the invasion of all that stuff? NO ONE.
Peecess are not going anywhere because there are too many peecee geeks who depend on the shitty MS software for their livelihoods! Macs will never take over because lusers don’t even know that there is a choice. Lusers assume all computers have the issues that MS products have. They assume that everyone suffers daily like they do.
Best Buy is considering carrying Mac products again and I say NO. Last time they did it, it was a joke and it’ll be the same this time. When you have peecee nerds staffing the store, you will not sell any Macs. It’s a joke at Fry’s, it’s a joke at CompUSA, too. Go ahead and ask an employee lurking in the peecee dept at these places for, say, an iBook. They will promptly take you to the peecee laptops. I was looking for iPod accessories at Fry’s and the kid who “helped” me took me to the MP3 players in the peecee section. I pointed out that iPod was an Apple product and he looked at me like I was nuts. I have also been told about a time when someone went to Fry’s to buy an iPod and the girl who helped him said, “oh, I don’t think those will work with a Mac”. I am not making this up.
As long as ignorance is encouraged by the peecee world, Macs will remain a niche product. The current Apple commercials are great, but it’s not enough to make a dent. Perhaps the Intel chip will do the trick, but I don’t think so. If you’re buying a MacBook just to use Winblows, I really don’t see the point. Sadly, I don’t think that the average luser will see the point, either.
Yes, Macs are far, far superior to Winblows peecees, but the support industry is not about to give up its hold on the computer industry. They will continue to avoid talking about Mac as a viable option and peecees will continue to dominate. The peecee industry will continue to perpetuate the “Macs cost more” myth and it’ll work. Lusers don’t have time for research, they will buy what the peecee nerd at Fry’s sells them. Nerds know best, right?
In the meantime, I will continue my stress free, enjoyable computing experience with my beloved Macs and let the peecee lusers torture themselves with their virii ridden Winblows machines.
Mmmmm, Macintosh goodness. I <3 my Macs! :-)
