It’s been a very interesting July 4th weekend so far.
Yesterday, we were working in the yard and Nick noticed that the fan in the a/c unit was not working, but it had been minutes before because I was weeding right next to it… Of course, it’s 90º in the shade and this has to happen. So, we proceed to start taking the damn thing apart to see if we can troubleshoot the issue. I called Cathy Trulove, our HVAC guru and she talked us through some things to check. The damn thing was still not coming on, so we wrote it off as a dead fan motor and started calling friends for a place to sleep over the weekend.
Nick took off all the wires, cleaned them and put everything back together and by the grace of the A/C goddess, the damn thing started working again!!
So, we’ve already told Cathy to get us a new unit and it’s going to be installed on Tuesday with the new ductwork being installed the week after. Yay! We were prepared for this to happen – the damn unit is from 1976 for fuck’s sake and it runs 24/7 just to keep the house at around 75-76º. So we’re getting a 12 seer (that’s the efficiency rating) unit (vs the 3 seer we have now) and it should save us anywhere from 40-50% on our power bills. We figure the $1200 unit will pay for itself in about 2 years.
So, that was yesterday. Today, I’m semi cranky due to some female friend bullshit plus some big time PMS. I’m tooling around here trying to get some housecleaning and laundry done, plus starting the roasted red pepper gazpacho I’m making for the party tomorrow. I’m also doing a muffeletta salad that I made up. If they are a hit, I’ll post the recipes for you soon!
