Militant Ignorance

My family has always been puzzling to me. Even as a child, I couldn’t understand why they weren’t concerned with ANSWERS and TRUTH. I know it’s a Scorpio obsession to always want to know the Truth no matter what, but my family is the poster child for the term “militantly ignorant”.

They pride themselves on the fact that they know little and plan to keep it that way. As I was pondering this the other day, I started coming up with slogans for them:

“Avoiding knowledge since 1953!”
“We don’t know how to spell and we’re damn glad of it!”
“We learn all we need to know from Fox News!”
“Directions are for pussies. Just make shit up like we do!”
“We can’t pronounce more than 2 syllables! Any more than that is a waste of time anyway!”
“We won’t leave East Tennessee because pollution and cancer are government hoaxes!”
“College is stupid. We don’t know nothin’ and we turned out OK!”

My mind raced with the possibilities. I know it’s mean, but goddam it’s TRUE.

Post Yule wrap-up

Whew! Glad it’s over! All in all, we had a busy fun weekend. Thursday I hosted my dinner party which was smashing, if I do say so myself. Here’s what I served:
Champagne
Layered Shrimp Dip
Cabernet-Shiraz
Field Mix and goat cheese salad
Creamy wild mushroom and roasted poblano soup
Standing Prime Rib (aka Roast Beast)
Grilled asparagus with creamy hollandaise (my recipe)
Roasted cauliflower with pine nuts and golden raisins
Boiled then roasted fingerling potatoes
Honey ginger carrots
Sauteed onion, grape tomatoes and baby peppers with balsamic vinegar reduction
Reisling Eiswein (courtesy of David)
Cookies and baklava from the German Bakery

I thank Ben, Dave, Allen and Dani for making it a great evening.

iBook Goodness!!

I’m blogging to you this evening from my fabulous new iBook from my darling husband!

It’s for Yule, but since he’s on the couch nursing his sore balls from today’s vasectomy, I told him to go ahead and bring it out. I’m SO STOKED!! This is a great system and it’s working GREAT!

I had a feeling he was gonna get me a laptop for Yule and when I saw the box, I knew. His doing fine with the minor surgery the frozen veggies are doing the trick! LOL It’s really no big deal – compared to the wisdom teeth earlier this year, this is nothing.

We’re here in the living room watching Sleeper Cell and surfing. We’re borrowing an Airport card from his buddy at work. We’ve got to put more RAM in this thing and get our own airport, but other than that, this is a sweet little ‘Book. It’s an 800Mhz and he got an awesome deal on it off of ebay.

Yay! ::does the happy dance::

The pressure! The pressure!

Yes, I’m being Tweak this week. I’ve got so much crap to do and NO time to do it. ACK!!

I have to say, I’m glad the damn gift exchange fell through. I’m so torqued up that it wouldn’t even be fun at this point. Damn! And I was doing so good, too. Fear and Loathing Redux.

People have irritated me to the point of distraction and that’s most of the reason for my angst. I just don’t get how so many people can be SO completely slack. It’s disheartening and it’s making me frustrated. I’m busting my ass to make sure the gift exchange happens and the dinner happens and the gift giving happens and all the rest and it seems that no one even gives a big shit one way or the other.

I know Nick gives a shit, but everyone else? Not really.

It’s a sad day in Fairy Goth Mother land. A sad, sad day.
