I thought they were fish!!

In the previous entry, I’d put herrings instead of lemmings in the paragraph about healthcare. Nick saw this and pointed it out to me…

At which point, I discovered that I thought lemmings were FISH!!!

I shit you not! I really did think that lemmings were fish, hence the confusion between herrings and lemmings… SEE NEXT POST!!

An obvious knowledge gap, I would think!! Har!

Gawd I can be SO BLONDE!!

And NO, I do NOT think that Chicken of the Sea is chicken!

Nick now has a really good bit of ammo for when I get on his case about shit he mixes up (or doesn’t know).

LMAO

[And YES, I still get shit over this over a decade later!! -A 2015]

Is it really the 26th??

OY VAY! Time flies when you’re, uh, well, time flies! I have no idea what the hell I’ve been doing for the last 13 days. Working a lot with Crescent Moon last week and OH, wait, I do, too know what I’ve done! The Art Door for the Decatur Arts Festival, that’s what! Yeah, I knew there was something in there that had substance!

The Decatur Arts Festival has local artists do up a door in any way they wish, then the doors are auctioned off to support some local charities. The door was great fun this year. The title of the piece is “Inside – Out featuring DJ”. The original concept was to have the square part of the door as a window, with one side looking into the morning light and the other looking into the night. But as I thought about the window, I thought it’d be more interesting if the window was the vehicle for the piece. So, it occurred to me that we could do a window with a cat in it (DJ, of course) and one side would be looking into the kitchen and the other side would be looking out of the kitchen into the yard. That’s what we did. The piece is done with paint, marker, foil, contact paper and posterboard with gesso, then the whole thing is coated in clear acrylic because they must sit outside for a week prior to the charity auction. (Protip: Sharpie markers DO run when faced with acrylic!! You can avoid this by spraying craft acrylic spray on your marker first, then using your paint on acrylic.)

So with the art door and lots of Moon work, I’ve been pretty distracted. On top of all that, I’ve got poison ivy AGAIN, dammit and that’s had me in a very cranky mood for days. I went to the clinic today and spent half a day waiting to get my freaking Medrol pack scrip. Damn G Dubya and his fucking budget cuts to finance his little war! Damn him. There are now only THREE clinics to handle ALL of Dekalb county. The clinic nearest me (the one that has Family Planning) has also had Adult Healthcare for the last year, but due to the cuts, now it’s back to only Family Planning. That is just plain stupid. If you need to see a doc and don’t want to go the Grady’s ER, then the clinics are the places to go for those of us who do not have AMA-approved HMO coverage (and never will). Stuff like poison ivy, infections, medicine refills, etc, does NOT need to go to ERs, yet, with the lovely healthcare system in this country, that’s where most of this goes these days. It’s insanity and people just follow along like lemmings. If everyone demanded accessible, affordable reliable health clinics, then we’d have them. But noooooooooo…

It really pisses me off, but I don’t have the time to rant right now. I’ve got yet more Moon work to finish up, so I’m off to get it done before dinner.

Who’s in Charge?

I read an op-ed piece today in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that got me to thinking about politics and who really runs this country. The piece was not written by any of the dumbasses who work for the AJC, but it was a piece lifted from the New York Times and [inexplicably] renamed for use in the AJC. The article’s proper title is “A War for Us, Fought by Them” by William Broyles Jr.

Anyway, the piece was about the supposed support for a protracted war in the Middle East and whose children are being offered up to fight it. In a nutshell, Broyles rightly accuses the elite of avoiding military service and the elite-run government of this country of avoiding personal responsibility for this ongoing warmongering by avoiding bringing back the draft.

Book Crossing

I just ran across the coolest site today: bookcrossing.com. It’s a read and release program whose ultimate goal is to turn the world into a library.

The way you do it is to go register at bookcrossing.com and label the books you are “releasing” with a code they give you. With that code, the book can be tracked if and when anyone who picks it up goes to bookcrossing.com and gives an update of where the book is (you log in with the book code or something).

Fascinating!! I am going to do this in the near future with some books that I like but are doing me no good on the shelf. You can give the book away, donate it, forget it at a coffeeshop, whatever. Hopefully someone with some web savvy will login and tell you where the book is. Isn’t that the coolest idea? I like the theme of read and release anyway, being a fast reader who usually buys used books in the first place.

I invite all of you guys to join up at bookcrossing.com and let’s “release” some books! It’s good karma!!

[The site is still up and active, but I don’t think this really caught on. I only did a couple before I wandered off. It’s still a great idea, tho. :) -A 5.4.2015]

Catch up

God, is it really May 7 already?? OY VAY!! Time flies when you’re working your ass off, doesn’t it?

I’ve been dealing with Crescent Moon’s Northlake store opening since last week and it’s been very intense. I worked 30 hours in 3 days this week!

Let’s see, which shout outs did I miss? Happy Birthday Heather, happy birthday Mom, congrats to Rob on a successful store opening and thanks to Nick for taking care of me and the kitties this week!

Besides geeky things, I plan to do yardwork and have some fun with Nick this weekend since it’s his birfday weekend! He’s 31 on May 10. W00t!

I’ve got his birfday surprise ordered, but sadly, it won’t get here until Wednesday the 12th. Oh, well, I think he’ll find it worth the wait. :-)

Ok, it’s hot as hell in this office and I’m off to cooler areas of the casa.

Peace out.
