Is it really the 26th??

OY VAY! Time flies when you’re, uh, well, time flies! I have no idea what the hell I’ve been doing for the last 13 days. Working a lot with Crescent Moon last week and OH, wait, I do, too know what I’ve done! The Art Door for the Decatur Arts Festival, that’s what! Yeah, I knew there was something in there that had substance!

The Decatur Arts Festival has local artists do up a door in any way they wish, then the doors are auctioned off to support some local charities. The door was great fun this year. The title of the piece is “Inside – Out featuring DJ”. The original concept was to have the square part of the door as a window, with one side looking into the morning light and the other looking into the night. But as I thought about the window, I thought it’d be more interesting if the window was the vehicle for the piece. So, it occurred to me that we could do a window with a cat in it (DJ, of course) and one side would be looking into the kitchen and the other side would be looking out of the kitchen into the yard. That’s what we did. The piece is done with paint, marker, foil, contact paper and posterboard with gesso, then the whole thing is coated in clear acrylic because they must sit outside for a week prior to the charity auction. (Protip: Sharpie markers DO run when faced with acrylic!! You can avoid this by spraying craft acrylic spray on your marker first, then using your paint on acrylic.)

So with the art door and lots of Moon work, I’ve been pretty distracted. On top of all that, I’ve got poison ivy AGAIN, dammit and that’s had me in a very cranky mood for days. I went to the clinic today and spent half a day waiting to get my freaking Medrol pack scrip. Damn G Dubya and his fucking budget cuts to finance his little war! Damn him. There are now only THREE clinics to handle ALL of Dekalb county. The clinic nearest me (the one that has Family Planning) has also had Adult Healthcare for the last year, but due to the cuts, now it’s back to only Family Planning. That is just plain stupid. If you need to see a doc and don’t want to go the Grady’s ER, then the clinics are the places to go for those of us who do not have AMA-approved HMO coverage (and never will). Stuff like poison ivy, infections, medicine refills, etc, does NOT need to go to ERs, yet, with the lovely healthcare system in this country, that’s where most of this goes these days. It’s insanity and people just follow along like lemmings. If everyone demanded accessible, affordable reliable health clinics, then we’d have them. But noooooooooo…

It really pisses me off, but I don’t have the time to rant right now. I’ve got yet more Moon work to finish up, so I’m off to get it done before dinner.
