Awake

Awake is being hot, then cold, then hot again.
Awake is tossing and turning.
Awake is AGAIN moving to the couch in search of relief.
Awake is not finding any relief on the couch.
Awake is the realisation that this is another night lost.
Awake is then realising that the following day is lost, too.
Awake is dreaming dreams that go on and on.
Awake is having a poignant dream and sobbing yourself out of the bed.
Awake is feeling like you’re losing your mind one night at a time.
Awake is watching every bit of motivation and life drained out of you.
Awake is the most frustrating ailment on the planet.

Dark Tower Series

It’s hard to talk about this series without spoilers, now that it’s done. It’s been a long time coming and many hours of reading, but overall, I’d have to say I’m satisfied with the way it turns out. I didn’t say happy about it, mind you, but I’m not incensed.

I can understand the rumours of Steve’s retirement after finishing the Dark Tower. I mean, really, how can he EVER top this work? Just about everything he’s ever written has threads into the Dark Tower! He did a nice job of tying up loose ends with many characters and it really felt like he was done with this type of writing for now, anyway. He talks about this in the notes at the end of DT 7.

Of course I would be heartbroken if he never wrote again, but I really don’t think that’s a possibility. It’s his life. His essence. His purpose on this Earth.

Oh, Tannenbaum!

We got our real tree last night! It’s a Balsam Fir (because they are somewhat skinnier than the Frazier Firs) and it fits perfectly in our teensy den. I’ve put about a dozen strands of lights on the poor little thing, but MY does it look festive!! LOL I’ll get a shot of it when we’ve finished putting ornaments on. Actually, it’s a 7′ tree (not small), but it does have quite a few lights! It’s my first real tree and it’s our first Yule in our home, so it seemed appropriate. :-)

The ADT guy installed our system today, so I no longer have to fret about fires when we’re gone. Ever since D & A’s house burned down, I’ve been extremely afraid of fire, especially if we’re away. I feel much better with 24/7 monitoring! Well, I’ve got to get up and get the kitties fed and get our dinner started. Ciao!

Thanksgiving!

Well, here I am in MI, logging this on Nick’s sister’s family PeeCee. They finally got a cable modem, so it’s not a big deal to do this!

Unfortunately, I have to look at neon pink EVERYTHING on this particular XP user, because Kaitlin is a neon pink JUNKIE. ARGH! Nevertheless, the rest of the clan is playing some odd dice game involving passing around quarters… It interests me none at all. So, as my poor gut tries valiantly to chew thru all this turkey, dressing, potatoes, beans, etc. I am just trying to keep busy so I don’t pass out at 8pm!! We’re all having coffee to offset the tryptophan.

The trip up here was, of course, a nightmare. The flight was delayed 2+ hours then we got to Detroit (DTW) they were having a power outage, so we got to sit on the tarmac for about an hour while they tried to find a working jetway to deplane us. We left our house at 10:30am and we met Nick’s sister at about 7pm. OH, and let’s not forget that I did, in fact, get the full monty TSA fondle at Hartsfield. It did go very quickly, however and I must say that getting fondled by a complete stranger was oddly exhilarating!! LOL

I’m having a great time here with people who are not [OVERTLY, that is] bitter, resentful, depressed or otherwise in some sort of malaise. It’s a nice change from hanging out with my family!!

We look forward to seeing everyone this weekend!

Everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

New Cabinet for the Shrub

The Shrub’s cabinet is bailing right and left! Hee!! It makes me happy. [edit 11/16: well, now I’m not sure I’m happy. It could get even worse with Condi Rice in there… not to mention the Shrub installing all his Texas cronies… I think I’ll amend happy to read INTERESTED. – A]

The guy who replaced Attorney General Ashcroft, Alberto Gonzales, has already pissed off the Religious Right by being a moderate when it comes to abortion. Yay! But who knows what other things he’ll fuck up, being a Bush cronie and all.

In addition to Ashcroft, the other bailees so far are Secretary of State Colin Powell, Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman, Education Secretary Rod Paige and Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham. I don’t know what to think about all these folks being kicked out and/or leaving. If the Shrub gets rid of the Nazis and installs more moderate people, then it could be a good thing. If he just makes things worse by installing more of his Texas cronies like Gonzales then maybe it’s not such a good thing. [another edit 11/16: Condi Rice is never a good thing. Like, EVER. -A]

What do y’all think?
