Party wrap up and airport bothers

Well, the party was a lot of fun!

I got to show off my birthday bling from my mom. She got me a cute little kunzite/blue diamond ring that I adore and a big ole Morganite cocktail ring that I like a lot but won’t be wearing everyday. Thanks Mom! :-)

Our neighbor showed up yesterday afternoon with a sprayer to douse the house in bleach prior to pressure washing. Our house has never been washed and the white siding was pretty green and nasty. You spray it with straight bleach to kill the mold/mildew and you let it sit for a day or two then you wash the hell out of it. We’ll have our “after” pix up in Nick’s gallery after we get the washing done!

This week should be pretty calm which will be nice before the hell of Thanksgiving week. I’ve got to convince the managers of the stores to get me the bills early next week, since I’m going out of town on Wednesday. Eh, I’ll prolly end up not doing anything at all for Rob next week.

I just pray that the TSA assholes at Hartsfield don’t harass me too much. I dread taking an airplane anywhere these days, what with having to go thru a strip search for a fucking 2 hour plane trip. I mean, DAMN. I get VERY testy when being harassed by dumbass airport employees in the first place, now add in having to practically strip and take off your shoes… well, it’s not gonna be pretty. Nick says he’s gonna pump me full of alcohol prior to the gauntlet and that may help – or not. I am resentful of being harassed at all. I mean, check the fucking luggage, run me thru the metal detectors, whatever, but do NOT make me strip, take off my shoes and put up with your stupid ass just because you can. I say profile the middle eastern looking assholes and leave me the hell alone! I don’t recall pale redheads crashing those planes on 9/11. Profiling works for a reason, folks. Anyway, hopefully I won’t be on the front page of the AJC for getting into a fistfight with some idiot TSA agent. ::sigh::

Such is the life of Angela right now. One year older and just marking time, baybee.

Another Birthday Logged

It’s been a rather crappy one, I must say. The weather has sucked ass and I’ve been cranky as hell all day. I’ll trade this day being crappy for Saturday’s party being really great, however. I hope it’ll balance out.

The weather is supposed to be nice this weekend and I hope the party is fun for everyone. We always have fun, no worries there, but I’ve had an odd feeling about this party. Hmmm. Well, we’ll see won’t we? I just want to have the party and not worry about people getting home, or needing a ride, or getting lost or staying over or being an asshat or any of that. Of course, I won’t get that, but it’s what I want… I certainly don’t mind people staying over, but you know, it’s still a responsibility. I guess I just want to be an attendee rather than the hostess! Silly rabbit, then don’t host your own party!! LOL

Eh, not much else to say. Hell, my mom didn’t even call me today!! That’s a FIRST!

I’m off to read or something useful.

Some Zen to get over it!

To be swallowed by the mountains or the smallest violet is to let go and become insignificant.
To lose significance is to retun to clarity.
To return to clarity is to effortlessly express the inexpressible.

What a surprise!

The Christian right has taken over the country! I knew the Shrub was going to win the election, but the overwhelming attack from the far right is VERY disturbing. I just read an op/ed piece about how this election wasn’t about parties or issues at all, it was about MORALS – a very astute observation.

The candidates didn’t really talk about the issues facing the country: deficit, jobs, a lost cause “war”, civil rights, the environment. No, this election was all about whose morality is the right one for this country. And the Christians have spoken!

This election was all about what kind of America we want and how we’re gonna legislate behaviour to ensure that the right wing Christian ideal is enforced. Is that really the America we want? What happened to the American ideal of freedom of expression? Or equal rights for EVERYONE no matter his sexual preference or religious beliefs? Or the separation of church and state? Or the triumph of science without religious restrictions?

And let’s not forget the Supreme Court, that will be changed for our lifetimes by Bush and the Conservative Christians he represents. It’s guaranteed that Chief Justice Rehnquist will be replaced, with a possibility of two more justices during Bush’s term. This is truly frightening. This could change our rights in ways that I don’t even want to think about. How about overturning Roe v Wade? How about letting the 10 Commandments be used in the judicial system? Google search about the role of the Chief Justice and the scenarios that could be played out under the Bush regime. You won’t like it.

Stupid Traffic Tricks

Last night, I witnessed the dumbest driver that I’ve EVER seen. I live in Atlanta, so I’ve seen many morons on the road!

I was taking a friend home to Oakhurst via E College Ave. This requires a left hand turn onto McDonough right after Agnes Scott College. There is no turn signal at this light. Traffic was still heavy at 7:15pm or so, which means that in order for anyone to turn left, the first car must pull up into the intersection on green in order to make the turn on yellow. It’s standard practice to do this in order to keep any sort of traffic flow. Otherwise, no one will get through the intersection, like, EVER, as the case in point will illustrate.

We pulled up just as the light was going from green to red and one car got through. The stupid woman in front of us was first in line. The light got around to green again and she didn’t move an inch into the intersection, so I figured she planned to gun it on yellow and squeak through as is the practice here. Well, NO. She sat there. (We’re on light no. 2 for those keeping track.) The light goes through another cycle and comes back to green (#3). She still sits. Now there are 4 or 5 cars behind me patiently waiting, but I’m now yelling out the window for her to MOVE INTO THE INTERSECTION. She moves up about 2 feet, then stops again and lets the light go red. Now she’s too far into the intersection.
