Tale of the Ghetto Paint Job

About a year and a half ago, I wrecked my Honda. I got her bodywork done promptly and intended to get the paint job done as well, but I developed this phobia: new paint = death by MARTA bus. Weird, I know.

When I got my emissions done this year, I decided it was time to suck it up and get the paint done. The aftermarket fender couldn’t go much longer without being painted. So I head over to the ghetto paint shop that I’d gotten an estimate from a year ago to see if they’d still do the work for $475. They will. Then I stopped at a CarClinix place and they said it’d be $3000… Um. NO. Off I go to the ghetto place.

I knew that going to a cheap ass ghetto car paint place was risky, but I really can’t spend a ton of money on a car that’s worth about $2500, you know?

For those of you who just want to see what she looks like almost done, here:

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

We’re off to Knoxville to eat and drink. We’ll be the only ones drinking, but whatever! :-)

I’d love to chat, but it’s 9:30 and we’ve got to get the hell out of here. Mommie Dearest gets pissy when we arrive at 3pm (like we will today most likely). She thinks that Thanksgiving dinner should be eaten at NOON!

We hope to see everyone between now and Yule. Who wants to have dinner here? How about a goose? I’ve never made one and I’d love to try it! How about a covered dish feast? Who’s in?

Happy Turkey day!

Bernie’s Lunch

For some reason I’m in the mood to post a gross picture of Bernie’s lunch leftovers… Heh, that’s what happens when a Flash Party™ fries your brain!

But today I find it fascinating. The only set up I did was to move some leaves out of the way, otherwise it’s just as she left it. (It was a chipmunk, btw!)

I call this shot Leftovers:

Bernie's Lunch of Fresh Chipmunk!

edit 4/14/09: Ah! This makes me miss my little huntress! She disappeared July 08. Probably eaten by a fucking pitbull. :-(

Victims of our own Flash Party™

ARGH! We had our very own Flash Party™ last night, out of the blue. I guess that’s the only way to have a Flash Party™ – out of the blue – otherwise it’d just be a party, right?

In any case, we drank wine, Pimms and Meyers Rum and smoked too many cigarettes and didn’t get to bed until 2:45am!! I thought the clock was wrong! The last time I checked the time it was midnight, I swear!

It’s worth the tired semi-hangover of today. We talked about several deep issues that really needed to be talked about and I think it was a real turning point for us. Hey, who needs therapy when you can hash things out and have real lightbulb moments with your partner? :-)

Aside from deep issues, we are also reallocating some of our household tasks – I’m now the Julie the Bean Counter in addition to my other Julie roles (Cruise Director, Chef, Cat Wrangler). This shift will free Nick up to focus more on art and comics and give me more to do around here. Without the Moon, I’m feeling very bored and directionless. Someone find me a p/t admin job!! Please!!

I’m trapped here again today with no car. Rhonda is in the ghetto paint shop STILL. You’ll hear all about the Tale of the Ghetto Paint job when I get her back, but for now it just SUCKS that I’ve been without a car for almost a week. I don’t see how anyone can sit at home every single day without going mad.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Today’s Quote

A friend is one who knows you and loves you just the same.
Elbert Hubbard

I like this one. I find it’s true both ways: people either love you for who you are or hate you for who you are. Take the recent friendship follies with those who shall remain nameless. We loved them for who they were before they hooked up and don’t like them much for who they are now (hate is not really applicable here). I believe that they do hate me for not condoning their behaviour… although I did not condone it before, either. Eh. The whole thing is too bad, but I’m not going to lower my standards to please them. Real friends would not expect you to change your expectations, would they?

Anyway, it’s still a good quote and it applies to real friends, not flashes in the pan. :-)
