That’s right, this year is our 5th year of wedded bliss and we are happier than ever!
We’ve talked of having an anniversary party this year and I think that would be just the ticket. What say you? Wanna party on April 4? Leave a comment!
Trivia: Traditional 5 yr Anniversary gift: wood; Modern 5 yr: silverware.
I’ve got plenty of utensils, so I guess it’s WOOD. Hmm, Nick should be able to provide that quite easily! HA!! ;-)
Oh, I just found the most awesome gift! Squee! Gotta order…
Welcome Googlers! I see this post is getting many clicks for some reason. It’s a fun story, I hope you enjoy it! -Angela
This is why I LOVE having an old house. We have a medicine cabinet from when the house was built in 1951:
ca. 1951 medicine cabinet
When replacing the old medicine cabinet today, we found this in the wall:
Yes, that would be razor blades. LOTS of them. We were shocked! So, why were there razors in the wall you ask? Well, let me tell you! Apparently, it was common practice to put razor disposal slots in medicine cabinets back in the day. Yes, that’s right, a special SLOT for blades that would deposit them conveniently into your walls. Yah. I am NOT making this up! (I wondered what that slot was for!) LOOK:
So, yes, we pulled out our old ass medicine cabinet today to find a pile of old razors. About 625 of the golden Gillettes (pictured below) and 25 miscellaneous ones – YES, I counted them!!
My question is this: Who in the blue fuck thought this was a reasonable solution? WHY? WHY? WHY? OMG WTF were these men thinking? That the house would never ever be refurbed? That people would automatically know to look out for hundreds (some people find thousands!!) of old rusty razors in the wall?? WTF??
We are gobsmacked. I did a Google search and this is apparently very common – well, seeing as how the cabinets were MARKETED with “Razor Disposal Slots”. ::shakes head::
From a random board: “In high school (1953-57) I helped my stepdad remodel houses. In those days, EVERY medicine cabinet had a razor disposal slot, which was needed—for example, Schick Inject blades came in a cartridge of 20 blades, with no used-blade disposal compartment. The used blades put through the medicine cabinet slot just dropped down between the studs to land on a 2×4. They tended to be rusted together in a mass-…”
I can attest that these paper thin blades did indeed glob together when they rusted. But STILL! Damn! If anyone needs 625 rusty Gillette blades, please give me a call, would you? (!!)
These are the same people that think that burying nuclear waste and other poisonous materials is a good idea, no doubt.
OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND! LA LA LA!!
Just damn. It’s a miracle we’ve survived as a species with such rampant stupidity. Darwin, please HELP!!
I was looking through the myriad random photos I’ve got laying around on my Mac and found this one date stamped Feb 21 2004, but it must be before Jan 16, because Dickens died Fri Jan 16 04. I believe it’s the very last pic I have of Dickens and it’s the only pic of all four varmints together. Missy is at the top (noon), then DJ at 3, Dickens at 5 and Bernadette at 9.
Missy was the newcomer. She’d been lurking around the apartment for several months and wormed her way into my heart. When we moved, I just couldn’t leave her behind. Dickens was very ill by this point, which Missy used as an argument that I really would need another cat. She was right.
The cats did not like Missy, of course, because she was new and she’s a diva. But they were so freaked out by the new place that they all put aside their petty differences and slept in the bed together as well as at night with us. YES, it was a tight fit! LOL
This didn’t last long, once they got acclimated, they dispersed to their previous alliances – but I did think it was awfully cute when they all put up with each other in the name of “OMG, where the hell are we???”
Finding this has made me a bit melancholy, but I’m still glad I found it. I
This post is #1004 to be exact! Wow! That’s a lot of whining, bitching, ranting, praising, linking and navel gazing!
I write this blog for several reasons. I write to express my thoughts – which are quite tangled most of the time. I write to document where I am at any given time. I write to post my opinions on life, politics and my favourite: PEEVES. Heh. I also write to create an ongoing autobiography for anyone who comes along after me and finds my little life an interesting read – which I can’t imagine unless it’s family. Blogging is the 21st century equivalent to writing letters or paper journals.
We secured a technical executor for all our online accounts and electronic files this weekend, so I hope that our legacies will reach into the future. For non-breeders such as we, it’s important that our legacies go on after we’re dust. In our cases, we need someone who can secure our digital legacy of writings, art, photography, etc. for posterity. Also, I needed a technical executor who could transition all my web clients to someone else, which requires a specific set of knowledge. I wouldn’t want to leave my web clients adrift with no clue as to how to manage their sites and domains.
So, with a new year around the corner and 1000+ posts, I look forward to continuing my legacy. Thank you for reading. :-)
I noticed over on the left an old post about a Jesus Freak that accosted me at the laundromat in 1999. Damn, it was one of the most surreal and funny experiences I’ve ever had toying with a Christian who knows little about the world or any culture but his own. I guess that’s most Christians who’ll accost you, come to think about it… I once asked the Jehovah’s Witness ladies if they’d ever read about any other religion than their own and they (bless their hearts) were honest enough to admit that they had not. Sheeple are things to be pitied. When you’re finished playing with them, of course. >:-D
I wish I’d known the phrase “Jesus Saves – Satan Spends!” back then. I think that guy would’ve popped a vessel when I shouted it out to him as he drove away.
