This is a photo of the jack o’lanterns Nick did 2 years ago. They make me giggle! I would redo the whole site’s color scheme, but I’m FAR too lazy for that. :-)

APE 09 wrap up
I’ll start at the top of the trip and tell the tale chronologically. I tell you one thing: the habit of leaving a clean house is a REALLY good one. Nothing like coming home to everything in order when you’ve spent x number of days in chaos!
So, we left out of here on Friday. AirTran regularly screws people who don’t know you have to pay extra to book your seats together (I never remember!). So we were booked with seats 20 rows apart going out. I was already stressed out and cranky, so this did NOT please me. We were on a plane with a group of women going to a marathon and another group that really screwed up the seating. After begging and whining, I managed to get us in adjoining rows, then by some miracle, a nice lady switched seats and we sat together. We also got to try out the AirTran wifi. It’s slow, but we got a free trial so it was GREAT!
The flight to SFO was smooth and we arrived to Greg and Kelly picking us up in his classic ’73 big ass Benz. (Pix soon!). They schlepped us to the Mission where we had Mexican and did some shopping. Good Vibrations is there, you know… Yes there was a purchase! :-D After some more shopping (and walking, of course), they dropped us at Good Hotel for check in. We really like the hotel, but Friday was quite warm and the room was HOT. There is rarely A/C in San Francisco or anywhere else in CA, believe it or not. They apparently did not get the memo about it. Friday night we had Pho at the little shop next to the Hotel – it was not as good as my Pho shop here, but doable.
Saturday we grabbed a cab to the show (APE *Which I think is gone now [Jun 16]) and managed to see every table. It was a fairly large show, smaller than Heroes. We had lunch with Ted, Kelly and Greg at Rocco’s (more walking, of course). They’ve been on Diners Drive Ins and Dives and let me tell you: it is a great place! I had a dinner sized portion of Chicken Scallopini with a brown marinara based sauce that was to die for and it was $10.95 (CHEAP for SFO standards).
After lunch we finished the show and finally spoke to Serena. She is such a sweet sweet girl! <3 There was the big APE party Sat night at Isotope, but we were tired from walking around 3 miles (more about that in a sec) so we opted to go to the Cartoon Art Museum for their little party instead. THAT was a good idea! Thanks to Becky, James and Ilana for telling us about it! They had a collection of Disney’s Sleeping Beauty production art from Ron Dias who was an in betweener at the time. Once Upon A Dream is a wonderful exhibit and I’m really happy to have seen it. They also let us take photos of it, which is technically not allowed, but we are grateful to have! One of the curators also told us about the Walt Disney Museum, which we decided to see on Sunday then go to APE…

Off to APE tomorrow!
Today is taking some crap to Salvation Army and doing last minute cleaning. Then I’ve got to figure out how to pack 5 days of clothes into one carry on. ::sigh:: Air travel sucks SO BAD these days. I remember when it was fun. Yah, kiddies, it used to be fun! You could carry on two bags (plus a computer bag), you just walked right up to the gate with anyone you wanted to without a cavity search or dumb TSA people harassing you because they are stupid little people on a power trip. You’d get REAL FOOD on a flight if it was a long one. It was actually pleasant. I know it’s hard to believe, but it was. Now you are cattle herded onto overcrowded planes where you get pretzels or maybe a dried up sandwich if you’re really lucky while the babies scream and you try to find some air that’s not been breathed by 100 people. NOT FUN.
I think the con will be fun once we are actually there. I’m just not looking forward to the flight and all that bullshit. I’m really happy my obligations are done for the year. I don’t think I could stand anything else. This year has been a tough one – with the last two weeks being excruciating. Bah!
I’m thinking of putting our house on the market. Why not? If we can sell it, then we can buy Emily’s house. The mad scheme will not happen (the parties are balking), but that’s not stopping me from finding someone else to buy this place, yanno? We’ll see.
Ok, off to start the day. Wish me luck!
Well, that sucked!
I eagerly tried this new NSAID for my cramps. It’s called Zipsor and I got a free trial. Sadly, it’s no better than naproxen. It’s actually worse because you have to eat them like candy to get any relief at all. Zipsor started off great, when I started to feel the cramps, I took one and they abated, but by hour 4, they were back and I had to take another one. The script says one every 6 hours, um, NO. By the time 14 hours came around, I’d eaten 4 or 5 and was pretty much hurting like I’d taken nothing, so I ate TWO and then passed out for 2 hours. For the rest of the day yesterday I ate a pill about every 4 hours. I probably took 6 in a 12 hour period rather than the TWO they recommend.
Either this drug is just another marketing ploy to sell something (most likely) or it’s not really for severe pain (DEFINITELY). In any case, it didn’t work for me at all. As a matter of fact, I think it made my cramps worse. I’m STILL feeling it today, which is not how it goes with naproxen. By day three I’m good to go with naproxen. Not today. I got up thinking I’d get back on my exercise schedule, but I feel like I’ve been bludgeoned so I doubt the Rack would be a good idea.
It’s been a really sucky two weeks and this one bodes no better. We’ve got the damn trip this weekend – I wish I could give a shit. Right now, it’s just another thing that must be endured.
I know everyone has a million things they want to do. There are dozens of festivals we’ll miss this weekend for sure. But let me just give you all a heads up:
Don’t expect to see much of us for the rest of the year. We are opting out of holidays this year, so please don’t buy presents or any of that. WE WILL NOT BE HERE.
Seriously, we are not participating in festivities this year and we plan to skip gift giving, so please take us off your buy lists. The only thing we’ll attend is a holiday dinner IF Russ and Janel host one. The reason that is an exception is because we haven’t seen them in months and it’s the only way we’ll ever see them, apparently. We are planning to drive to the Keys or something over Christmas.
So, when we bow out of activities, please don’t be offended. It’s just been one BITCH of a fall for us and we are BURNED OUT. We just want to huddle and catch our breath. 2010 will be the Year of the Weasel. We are making our big push to attend cons and make books, so you guys probably won’t see much of us next year, either.
