Finally found Fire, Inc

I’ve wondered about this band forever!! It’s the mystery band on the Streets of Fire soundtrack (one of my very favourites). As I suspected, Fire, Inc is a Steinman creation, whose real name is Pandora’s Box. Yay Wikipedia!! The lead singer, who totally rocks the huzzah, is Laurie Sargent – whose name sounded very familiar. Well, here’s why! I’ve got this Face to Face LP (that would be vinyl record for you youngsters)! I had no idea she could sing like she does on the SoF soundtrack. Awesome!

So, I got completely distracted by Laurie Sargent and her band Face to Face…I’d love to get the record from Amazon (no DRM) but sadly, Amazon’s interface is frelled and I’m over it. Off to LimeWire! FUCK YOU AMAZON!

From reading the Amazon comments, I’ve discovered that F2F made 3 records and Laurie has a solo career, too.  She still plays around the Boston area. Shweet!

I guess I should, uh, maybe work or something today… ::scampers off to be productive::

Tuesday randomness

We are so frelling busy! But I thought I’d take a moment to post something, albeit random and not very cohesive. It’s so random, in fact, that it’ll be a list! Heh!

  • Freelancing is always feast or famine. Remind me of this during the next famine.
  • Some clients will not help themselves. Ever. It’s tough to deal with this sort, because they make us, the support people, feel somehow responsible for their unwillingness to make the changes necessary to smooth out their problems.
  • I wish I could draw more so I could do my own logo work. It’s hard to have to wait and wait for Nick to find the time to do the drawings.
  • I want to live somewhere with weather that is around 72-75ºF during the day and in the 50s at night all the time with low to medium humidity. Yes, it would get boring, but I think I could dig it for a year or so anyway.
  • The baby birds are still around the yard. They are not getting fed now, I guess it’s time to find their own food. The parents are still staying close, which is good considering that Bernie the Great Striped Huntress is hanging around the yard. Babies = Good Eats!
  • I had a female hummer come to the feeder yesterday.
  • Tori Amos is putting out a graphic novel this summer: Comic Book Tattoo. Get it.
  • I’m very grateful to have such awesome friends. No particular reason, just happy with our group. :-)
  • I really hate those teensy tinsy red spiders that bite.
  • I should be getting out of here and running errands right now.
  • I am very sorry for the girls who have sick ferrets. Those things (the ferrets, not the girls) are pretty much guaranteed to fall ill to something untreatable, aren’t they? They are cute, but I don’t think I’d recommend them for pets. They seem to be too high maintenance and too expensive to keep healthy for your average pet owner. I’ll stick to cats.
  • Speaking of pets, my brood needs their shots. ::sigh:: Gotta get that done.
  • Speaking of Drs that need to be seen: I need to get to the gyno for my exam. I think I skipped last year – I didn’t mean to, but I think I did. I’ve got to bite the bullet and go.

Ok, enough rambling. Gotta get to the grocery, do recycling and get back here to make calls for the taqueria. L8r.

Two years running

We missed the Decatur Arts Fest Door Project AGAIN. Dammit. I knew we were close to the deadline, but I got an email from them yesterday telling us that the door was due THIS Saturday rather than next. Shit. Well, at least we’ll have a good concept for next year, right?

Don’t expect to see us much right now. Here’s the list of gigs we’ve got going on:

  • new taqueria logo, menu, etc.
  • taqueria vendors and contracts
  • old client needs some web site upgrades
  • another client has a sick Mac
  • Oracle will be ready to post in a few days
  • my jewelry teacher’s site needs some work
  • I need to create and mail out several paper web propositions (past due by months)
  • ThinkWeasel! updates and the sampler for Comic-Con are in progress
  • arranging the flights, car and lodging for the CA trip
  • make more jewelry!!

I’m sure there’s more… Ah, yes, all the house projects that are still undone. Yah.  So don’t feel slighted if we are not the least bit social for the next few weeks. We’re just busy as frack! At least we’re making money! :-)

Misangela’s wild kingdom

Gods, my yard is like the freaking wild kingdom today!

Birds bringing their babies out, chipmunks frolicking about, squirrels being squirrels.

So, I’m out refilling the sunflower seeds and I see Missy Kat chasing something on the carport. I go to investigate and find her after a snake eyed skink – who is already tailless thanks to the cat. So I catch the poor tailless skink and fling him over into the weeds away from our CowCat Huntress. Then I notice something squirming… It was the skink’s TAIL! EEWWWW!! I pointed it out to Missy (to make up for tossing the skink away) and she promptly EATS IT! EEEWWWWWW!!!

Such is my life! :-)

Birdwatching

Most of you know that I’m an avid birdwatcher. I’ve documented 48 species in my yard! I’ve got a Backyard Birds gallery of pix, many aren’t so great, but it’s hard to photograph small birds from 15 feet away!

I’m also a member of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Great Backyard Bird Count, (please take just a moment to look at the numbers here!!) and Project Feederwatch. I’m such a nerd!

Anyway, yesterday and today I’ve observed some interesting behaviours in my feeding area. Yesterday I saw a pair of cardinals picking around on the ground beneath the feeders, which is not unusual. Then I noticed that the female was poofed out and flicking her wings. Upon closer inspection, I realised that this was not a female at all, but a fledgling out with dad for lunch! The fledgling (I believe it’s a male) was poofed up and flicking its wings/tail for FOOD. The daddy cardinal was opening up seeds and popping them into the baby’s open mouth! How cool is that!!

Today, I see a couple of finches on the feeder and one is flicking its wings and tail… Upon closer inspection, these two were a mommy and a fledgling. The baby was exhibiting the exact same behaviour as the young cardinal had! The mommy would get a seed, open it, and pop it into the baby’s open mouth!

How cool is that!!

EDIT: I just saw a robin with two babies doing the same thing!! The robin tells its babies to hide in the vinca while it hunts for tasty bits.  Clearly this is something I’ve simply never noticed before. Wow! :-)

See, I don’t hate all babies – just the smelly human ones! ::evil grin::

I adore my wild birds, I really do. I can’t imagine having one caged up. It’s also worth noting that the wild birds are as spoiled rotten as my domestic cats. I put out a Nyger seed feeding sock yesterday for the finches. They snubbed it. I fussed about this most of the day, then I got the idea to put the seed into a copper feeder I have. Once I presented it properly, they are all over it. Now that’s some spoilt birds right there! LOL

I don’t mind that my various animals are spoiled rotten. They give me much happiness and that is a good thing!
