Jesus Saves – Satan Spends

I noticed over on the left an old post about a Jesus Freak that accosted me at the laundromat in 1999. Damn, it was one of the most surreal and funny experiences I’ve ever had toying with a Christian who knows little about the world or any culture but his own. I guess that’s most Christians who’ll accost you, come to think about it… I once asked the Jehovah’s Witness ladies if they’d ever read about any other religion than their own and they (bless their hearts) were honest enough to admit that they had not. Sheeple are things to be pitied. When you’re finished playing with them, of course. >:-D

I wish I’d known the phrase “Jesus Saves – Satan Spends!” back then. I think that guy would’ve popped a vessel when I shouted it out to him as he drove away.

Good times, people, good times!  ;-)

So Quality Doesn’t Matter, eh?

There was an interesting conversation that we had over the weekend that had an angle that just may explain much of America’s woes – it explains the auto industry’s at least.

We were at a friend’s house for an impromptu cookout and met a couple that are friends of theirs. The chick was from Detroit, so naturally she and Nick got to talking about the car industry, etc. Naturally this led to discussions about gas prices and gas mileage for American cars vs foreign cars. I know for a fact that Heather’s little 4 cylinder Cavalier (4-5 yrs old, maybe) got 18 MPG. Eight-mothafuckin’-TEEN!! It was retarded. So, I ask: do the American car manufacturers TRY to make their cars suck or does it just happen by itself?

Well, of course, them’s fightin’ words to a dyed in the wool Rust Belt dweller, so she was sputtering about how great the gas mileage is for her Monte Carlo (the 08 model claims 21 city, 31 hwy – I doubt sincerely it’s 10mpg higher on the hwy). It was cute that she used how far she could go on a tank as her measure of good gas mileage. It was cuter that she didn’t know the size of her tank (17 gal). Then she proudly stated that her friend’s Cavalier got 22MPG! Wow! 22!

My 1994 Honda gets 26-28 city and about 32-35 hwy, BITCHES. And it’s 14 years old!! Continue reading “So Quality Doesn’t Matter, eh?”

Culinary Palate

Nick and I were talking last night about food – or rather, why some people refuse to eat vegetables. We know several people (mostly girls, interestingly) who will not touch “anything green.” I find this so very odd. But I can see how it could happen.

Look at the average American diet: high fat, high sugar, low flavour. It’s easy to understand why few Americans have a palate. When you eat crap food your whole life, you’ll naturally not want to push yourself past it. Why bother developing a palate when 90% of Americans are just like you: can’t tell the difference between basil and rosemary. Look at the American food industry. Show me a chain restaurant that offers anything other than bland, sweet, fatty foods. You can’t because they are all run by the industrial fast food mindset of getting food out of a can. And the sad part is that the typical American can’t even tell that their marinara sauce is out of a can vs made fresh. Hell, the typical “chef” can’t, either. I put chef in quotes because having a culinary degree does NOT mean that you know jack shit about food, flavours and quality. I am lucky to work with a Chef who I can talk food with all day long  but chefs like that are few and far between. There are many good chefs here in Atlanta, so it seems that they are everywhere but trust me, they are not. Continue reading “Culinary Palate”

Busy busy weekend

This weekend ended up being far from the semi-relaxing one we were aiming for. We had a birthday party Friday (yes, there was puking by the birthday boy LOL) and stayed out later than we intended. Saturday we slept in and then got a call about an impromptu birthday party that night, which pushed some stuff we had already lined up into Sunday. There was already a wedding lined up for Sunday, so stuff that was pushed from Saturday ended up going into Monday. Get the idea?

Monday morning was full up with the dentist. We have yet another new dentist (our dentist office is corporate and SUCKS) who wanted us to use this stuff called “fluoride varnish,” so we got our teeth cleaned then left with waxy bioadhesive on our teeth which had to stay on for 4 hours… Yah, NO, we were starving by 2pm so we tried scrubbing that shit off. That shit is ON there, lemme tell ya. I believe it would be more efficient to put it on at night before bed. I finally got most of it off the front of my teeth after scrubbing with baking soda and we took off to get lunch and do some tasks that were left over from the weekend.

We tried the Porter Beer Bar in L5P again, but like the other two times we tried it, it was closed.  This time I sent an email to the owner and she told me that it was a plumbing problem. I did some internet research and found that they have very mixed reviews so far. Part of it is trying to do a bit more upscale in L5P – the asshole locals have complained that it’s too expensive and is “too high falootin’ to serve PBR.” Fortunately, there are more locals who are happy to have a bar that’s not a dive in L5P than there are the stinky indie rock kids who are broke. Heh.

So, today feels like frelling Saturday to me. When you work all weekend and are booked to death, the work week can feel more laid back than the weekend did. Bleh.

I’ve decided I will not be having a Halloween party.  I’ve been booked to death lately and I’ve still got the trip to do, so I don’t want to commit to a party right now. Sorry, dudes. However, there is a big ole outdoor hippy festival with costumes, live music, etc. at the Land Trust over off of Arizona Ave. all day Friday Oct 31. We may attend that for at least a little while (or Amy at the Vortex will kill us!).

As I’ve mentioned, ThinkWeasel! is having a big day this Friday Oct 17. It’s our 2 year anniversary and our 100th comic!!  Please come by ThinkWeasel.com  to express your congrats to our favourite Weasel. We’ve got the Decatur Beer Festival Saturday morning, so if we go out, we won’t be out late. Either that or I’ll cook a gourmet meal here and we’ll have a quiet celebration here. Not sure yet.

For further entertainment Saturday, we’ll leave the Beer Fest and head to L5P for the Halloween Parade and party (we take MARTA). That’s always fun, especially when you’ve been drinking free beer since 11am! LOL If anyone who will not be at the Beer Fest wants to join us in L5P around 5pm on Saturday, let me know.

We have nothing booked for Saturday night and Sunday and I think it’s going to stay that way. I should be leaving for my trip next week – hopefully – so I’ll need to get all my shit together for that. (Crap, we’ve got dinner booked for Sunday. May have to cancel…)

That’s the state of affairs with me.
