July 4th

Well, we got rained out here in Decatur and they are not firing the ordnance until Labour Day weekend. Bummer. We still had fun hanging out in L5P with Black Heather. We attended the Criminal Records “bbq” (it was vegan, so kinda nasty), drank beer, ate at the Vortex then came home to watch some of the Twilight Zone marathon. Then we headed to Twain’s to meet some poeple and wait for the fireworks. Sadly, as Pat predicted, we got a huge thunderstorm and no fireworks. Boo!

Ah, I found yet another time waster:

Make a groovy portrait icon!!

I guess that’s it for the all round update. I’ve got some stuff to write about if I ever get around to it!!

I’ve not felt well for over a week now. I’ve had lower back pain, which was hurting like a beeyoch last week. I’ve no clue what the hell happened, but it’s been bothering me. I also got the visit from Aunt Flo, so that only made things worse. Blargh. That’s why the pickins have been so pathetically slim around here lately.

Hopefully I’ll get back into writing something with content very soon!

Tweaking settings around here

Hey, folks!

There has been a rash of spam commenting around here, so I’ve changed the way comments are handled. I can’t seem to get the “Trusted Commenters” thing to work, so it appears that your comments will be held until I moderate them. I hate that, but I hate spam even more.

I don’t know why the Trusted Commenters selections don’t work, but they don’t. It’s either allow any comment to published immediately or none, so I’m going with none for now. Hell, even MY comments aren’t published immediately!!

Grr. I hate spammers. HATETHEMHATETHEMHATETHEM! They ruin the internet(s) and they fuck up the flow of blogging and email. They should DIE DIE DIE. It’s too bad that the spam filters for MT let anything that says “nice site” through. I’ve tweaked the shit out of the filters, so let’s see what we get. :-)

In any case, hopefully I’ll find a way to fix the spammer issue and things will get back to normal soon. Until then, you can still comment but it’ll not show until I log in and moderate. Sorry.

Shuttle Is Set for Liftoff Saturday, With All Eyes on the Fuel Tank – New York Times

My first snippet/pic post with Flock. Maybe it’ll actually work this time… It was refusing to log in last time. :-(

Well, it’s acting a bit strange, I found that it was actually uploading the blog entry via the API, but giving me an error at the same time? Weird. There are also some random characters that I can’t get rid of – cuz I can’t see them in the text! ? But anyway, the ability to surf and snag pix, urls, text, etc. for an entry totally RAWKS. This will save me a buttload of time.

[Edit Aug 2011] Sadly Flock didn’t make it through the browser wars. It was handy.

The Next Big Thing

I happened to hop over to Thomas’ blog today and found out about a new browser called Flock.

The blogosphere is abuzz about it, so I am giving it a shot. It’s still in beta, but apparently it is very stable.

We’ll see!

An ‘official’ Mac is BETTER article

Yah, yah, PeeCee fanatics can just skip this one. The guy who wrote an [Feb 09 update: this blog has disappeared.] article about the real value of Mac ownership is a professional security consultant and makes his living dealing with hacks, malware, virii, etc. I just love it when I can find info from neutral parties – or better yet, PeeCee pros like this guy – who totally sing the praises of Mac ownership and what a good investment a Mac is. You pay on the front end with Mac, but then you’re pretty much done. That $400 PeeCee will cost you more than that $1200 Mac by the time you add in the necessities like virus protection and hours of support and the inevitable rebuilds. Not to mention that MSOffice is twice as expensive for PeeCees than Macs.

Macs are the better investment for individuals AND enterprise solutions. Listen to the Security Professional! :-)

PeeCees are ubiquitous because they are embedded in offices everywhere. They remain embedded because there is a multi-billion dollar industry in place to support said peecees. If the market shifted to Mac, it would render a whole industry useless. Who’d buy Symantec products? Who’d need all that support staff to perform the endless patching, updating virii software, cleaning malware, removing spyware and rebuilding of peecees? Who’d need to employ security specialists who do nothing but try to stave off the invasion of all that stuff? NO ONE.

Peecess are not going anywhere because there are too many peecee geeks who depend on the shitty MS software for their livelihoods! Macs will never take over because lusers don’t even know that there is a choice. Lusers assume all computers have the issues that MS products have. They assume that everyone suffers daily like they do.

Best Buy is considering carrying Mac products again and I say NO. Last time they did it, it was a joke and it’ll be the same this time. When you have peecee nerds staffing the store, you will not sell any Macs. It’s a joke at Fry’s, it’s a joke at CompUSA, too. Go ahead and ask an employee lurking in the peecee dept at these places for, say, an iBook. They will promptly take you to the peecee laptops. I was looking for iPod accessories at Fry’s and the kid who “helped” me took me to the MP3 players in the peecee section. I pointed out that iPod was an Apple product and he looked at me like I was nuts. I have also been told about a time when someone went to Fry’s to buy an iPod and the girl who helped him said, “oh, I don’t think those will work with a Mac”. I am not making this up.

As long as ignorance is encouraged by the peecee world, Macs will remain a niche product. The current Apple commercials are great, but it’s not enough to make a dent. Perhaps the Intel chip will do the trick, but I don’t think so. If you’re buying a MacBook just to use Winblows, I really don’t see the point. Sadly, I don’t think that the average luser will see the point, either.

Yes, Macs are far, far superior to Winblows peecees, but the support industry is not about to give up its hold on the computer industry. They will continue to avoid talking about Mac as a viable option and peecees will continue to dominate. The peecee industry will continue to perpetuate the “Macs cost more” myth and it’ll work. Lusers don’t have time for research, they will buy what the peecee nerd at Fry’s sells them. Nerds know best, right?

In the meantime, I will continue my stress free, enjoyable computing experience with my beloved Macs and let the peecee lusers torture themselves with their virii ridden Winblows machines.

Mmmmm, Macintosh goodness. I <3 my Macs! :-)
