New G4 goodness!

Well, the G4 arrived yesterday here at the house rather than where Nick told them to send it (NuVision), but luckily I was here to sign for it! It’s in good shape, but it’s not the 500Mhz we ordered, it’s a 450. I’ve got to get on the phone now and call them about that. ::sigh:: I don’t think this company, Second Wind PCs has a clue about Apple hardware [they don’t have a site anymore, either. -ed]. So, I’m off to wrangle them and then to start setting up the new G4!

Yay!

Update @ noon: the Second Wind ppl have no idea about Apple hardware, so they are currently trying to figure out what sort of credit to issue us. They didn’t even know that the Mac had more than 500Mb RAM in it AND a SCSI card installed – facts that I didn’t point out, either. Heh.

Happy and frisky!

This lovely warm springy weather makes me get spring fever! My friend Sonya called me all in a frenzy last night, wanting to get rid of all her furniture and move to a new home! Now that’s some serious spring fever!

Me, I just want to start gardening and have cookouts every weekend! And I have to dig out the screens for the windows so I can open up the house. I think the first thing we’ll have to do is work on the old 50s style windows to get them unstuck and halfway functioning. A few of them are painted shut and many of them won’t close unless you push from the outside, which is a problem on the East side of the house, which is elevated. The to-do list is always long when you’re a homeowner!

Nick is on a nut to get married, so when he was making all these plans to go to Vegas and do the deed, I pointed out that he’d better get Rick and June onboard if he wanted funding. I know my parents and I figured they’d be all for it unless they had to pay for something. Well, lo and behold, Nick called them tonite and they want nothing to do with the big plans to marry in Vegas. I’m not the least bit surprised, but I feel bad for Nick to get shot down like that. My parents are all talk NO ACTION. They’ve always been this way with me. So my Dad is chatting up Nick and telling him how honored he would be to have Nick for a son-in-law, then flatly refusing to go to Vegas to “give me away” – whatever that means. My parents are basically good people, but extremely tactless (in case you wondered where I got that trait). Nick put on a good face and said “I’m not done yet!” and I believe him, but I still feel bad that my parents are such wankers. ::sigh:: The only reason I would get married is because there is real estate involved now. Oh, and let’s not forget my 20% discount on insurance!! Heh, my insurance agent Chuck is more excited about my getting married than I am. But anyway, I love Nick and I’d marry him anytime. He’s a good boy and we’re a good pair. But all the hassle – eh, who needs it?

Bernie ran off Sat night and didn’t return until Monday morning. It freaked us out pretty badly. We went to our friend Beth’s Oscar party on Sunday and got snockered – damn it was a fun party! We got home and Bernie still wasn’t here, so we proceeded to get all teary eyed about it before we passed out. You know how you get drunk and all emotional… The varmint came back Monday morning with some injuries from the Evil Black Kitty, namely a big old bite on her tail that had swelled up so much that she couldn’t even raise it. Poor girl! So, now all the varmints are grounded for a week. I think we’re gonna have to get a privacy fence installed. Old Black Kitty better not show his face around here anytime soon. If either Nick or I get ahold of him, he’s gonna be a dead kitty. Little fucker.

So, the housewarming is still slated for March 27th. Whether we get married on April 1st or not, the party is on the 27th. As for housewarming gifts, Lowe’s cards, Home Depot cards, Target cards, booze for the liquor cabinet or just showing up for the party would be fine! We hope to have a good crowd and please do NOT feel like you have to bring a gift! Just bring yourself and what you want to drink. We’ll take care of the rest!

Ok, I’m off to run some Mac updates on this G3. I have a new G4 on the way to me now, so hopefully I’ll be on that by next week!! Wheeeeeeeee!

Long weekends are goooood!

This was our long weekend (Nick has every other monday off) and man, what a weekend it’s been! On Saturday, we went to Big Lots to see what sorts of lawn tools they had and they had everything we wanted for cheap! So, with our saws and loppers in hand, we came home and began to whack away at the evil privet. The next thing we knew, we’d been at it for several hours and we’d created several large piles of brush. We stopped around 6pm to eat and begin getting ready for the big closing party at the Chamber.

We get all gussied up and trot over to the Chamber at around 9:30 or so and paid our $40 to get in. Ouch! It was well worth it, tho. Everyone was there and I got a verra niiiiiice spanking from Master Chuck. I’ll have some pix up of that this week. I don’t feel like resizing and all that right this minute. We left the Chamber at around 2:30 and we were the walking dead!

We got up Sunday around 10 and proceeded to go nuts in the yard again. I have some pix of the brush piles, but we need to take them again with one of us standing next to it so you can get the sheer volume of what we did. It’s pretty impressive. Despite my fatigue, I still managed to crank out a website for our current client last night.

Needless to say, today we’re really the walking dead. We are tired to our bones! I got my hair done at the salon and it looks fabulous! It’s fire engine red with black underneath and cut into a long shag. It rocks. Again, I’ll post a pic when I get the chance this week. We went over to the Vortex for lunch and that really put us over the edge, fatigue-wise. Tonite, we have to do some more stuff for the client, but it’s slow going with us so tired. Nick is struggling with the vector files and he’s all pissy, so it’ll be a miracle if I can get the stuff sent out tonite.

All in all, I’d say this has been one of the most productive weekends we’ve had since moving in. Tiring, but very satisfying! :-)

Wow, are we out of touch!

Ok, I just learned that the Chamber is closing NEXT WEEK. How’d that get by me? We’re on the mailing list and everything and didn’t know about this!

WTF?? Any info about the circumstances of the closing would be appreciated! I’ll bet it has something to do with the raid that happened recently…

On to other news: I’ve given notice to the Salon, so I’ll be outta there at the end of the month. The Crescent Moon gig is picking up steam, so that’ll be a big chunk of my time for the next few months.

We went out last night for Valentine’s Day. I worked all day at the Salon, then Nick took me to a movie (Mystic River, very intense, definitely Oscar worthy) and then we went to Twain’s for drinkies. It was fun! He got me yellow roses and chocolate, too! Even the kitties sent me a card. Awwwww! :-)

It’s been raining for what seems like forever. I wish this weather system would move the fuck on. If I wanted to live with constant rain, I’d move to the Northwest fer chrissakes!!

The only other recent excitement has been the discovery of the Mr Clean Magic Eraser. If you’ve not tried them, you must GO NOW and get some. I’m not kidding, they are amazing. They are not rough like a ScotchBrite like I thought they’d be, they are soft, dense sponges (sorta like the foam you use to make cushions) with no smell and no discernible chemical content. ?? I have no idea how they work, but I can tell you that they ROCK. They are $4 per box, with 4 to a box. They will clean your nasty tub like nothing else. I hope the Mr Clean people see this and give me free Magic Erasers for the rest of my life!!! LOL

Success!

Well, I’d say my first dinner party at the new house was a success! It was in honour of David, my friend from forEVER! Happy Birthday, Dave!! Russ, Heather and Caroline attended – as well as Dave and his guide dog Bonnie. The cats took it all in stride with no fur flying or blood shed! LOL

I prepared lamb, zucchini, roasted red potatoes, tzatziki salad (cucs, onion and yogurt) and dolmathes (stuffed grape leaves). It all turned out very well! We had baklava for dessert.

After dinner, Dave and Russ brought out the guitars and we jammed for a while. It was just FABulous!!

I look forward to our next jam session!

Fun was had by all! :-)
