Is it really any surprise at all that Dubya put one of his lapdogs in the Supreme Court slot? This Miers woman has NO experience, NO background to support this appointment and NO business being in the highest court in the United States.
All Dubya can say about her is that she’s a nice lady and I’ve known her for a long time. Oh yeah? Well, that makes me feel so much better!
Miers is clearly enamoured with Dubya, having followed him around like a puppy for years. She said that he’s the most brilliant man she’s ever known. OMFG, she must hang out in frat houses or something. Her only qualification is that she kisses Dubya’s ass like a good lackey and she’ll make her decisions based on what Dubya’s agenda dictates. Cheeeerist!
As I said in previous posts (check out the Politics archive), this is the exact thing Dubya’s been waiting for. That man is the luckiest bastard I’ve ever seen when it comes to getting his way. I swear to the gods, no matter how unlikely, he gets the lucky breaks. I suppose that’s the story of his life: lucky breaks. He’d not even be where he is if not for his brother marrying a Hispanic. Jeb fucks up and the whole family looks at their last hope: Dubya. They know he’s a moron, but he’s all they got, so they prop him up, use Daddy’s connections and get him into office.
This whole 8 year Dubya experience has truly soured me on American politics. I didn’t like it before, but now I’m embarrassed for this country. The sheeple elect a buffoon and then reelect him!! GAH!! What does that say about this country? We’re all atwitter about the Middle East’s theocracies, yet here we are, supporting a moronic president whose goal is to create a theocracy here. Oh, excuse me, it’s not a theocracy if it’s Christian.
I’m sickened by this presidency and the right wing Christians who’ve taken over this country. It’s a coup that none of the sheeple seem to notice. There seems to be a lot of chatter about Meirs and her glaring lack of qualifications for this job, but it won’t matter. She’ll be placed in the Court. Dubya gets what he wants, no matter how ridiculous, no matter how completely wrong.
When abortions are again performed in backrooms and women die, perhaps it will wake up some of the people who are asleep at the wheel. It’s my bet that it’ll simply be yet another coup for the rabid right wing conservative Christians who will celebrate the deaths of women trying to abort. It’s “God’s Will”, after all, to become pregnant after a drunken fuck. And it’s also “God’s Will” to keep the unwanted kid and become yet another single mother who lives on welfare and raises a maladjusted criminal.
Read Freakonomics. There is a whole section about the legalization of abortion and its direct effect on the overall crime rate of this country. When women have the ability to terminate unwanted pregnancies, there are fewer welfare mothers with kids they can’t take care of. This leads to the lower crime rates overall that we’re seeing now. Don’t take my word for it, just read the book.
And then go renew your birth control or get fixed, because your right to control your life will most likely be revoked very soon.
Dubya’s legacy will be felt for decades. His federal debt, his trashing of the environment, his 2 appointees to the Supreme Court. We can’t get rid of them, you know. They are there for LIFE, people. LIFE. I think that this tradition should be overturned. When the idea of Justices appointed for life came about, people had a shorter lifespan. I don’t think when this idea was put in place that anyone was thinking that there’d be Justices who were in their late 80s and half dead that would still be on the bench. I think that a term of 12-16 years would be long enough to weather 2 presidents and the various political machinations within those terms. The whole idea of life terms was to give continuity to the Court and I think that you’d still get that with a term limit.
But, no matter, it’s not gonna change in my lifetime. For the next good chunk of MY lifetime, I’ll have to deal with a right wing Christian agenda tampering with MY civil rights. Thanks Dubya, you asshole. Thanks sheeple, you morons.
