DragonCon 2004: Wow!

DragonCon 2004 definitely made up for 2003. Last year was a morass of missed panels, oversleeping and generally just sort of standing around, but THIS year! This year we made to all the panels we wanted to see, we attended a fun party @ Farshad’s (for a change) and we had a blast. We also came to know the goodness of the Con Hospitality (Hostility!) Suite. They are open 24 hrs with snacks, a soda fountain and movies running continuously. They also have a smoking section for those who don’t want to go to the smoking porch. Schweet! Oh, and I dyed my hair, as previously mentioned.

Friday we checked into the hotel on time and got loaded in. Friday night we drank a bit and attended some panels – the Dr Demento panel stands out in my mind as the main one. Pretty funny stuff, albeit old stuff. Andy was pretty toasted! We got to bed at a reasonable hour so we could get up and hit it early on Sat.

Saturday, we attended panels in the morning then I came home to check the kitties in the afternoon. I had to make a Kroger run due to our roomies drinking up all the soda and juice the night before. Grrrr. I got all that done and came back to the Con for more panels Sat afternoon. We saw some Trek, Dead Zone and Harlan Ellison. Nick and I took a Disco nap after all this to prepare for our long night of parties. We got up around 7pm and I began getting ready. Everyone was meeting up at our room since it’s in the Hyatt where all the action is. We all planned to roll or do Red Dawn (some herbal shit that really winds your clock) and then troll for excitement. After a room party of a couple of hours, we wandered down to the smoking porch to see who was around. Then it was decided that we’d head up to Farshad’s party to roll. It took us about 45 minutes to get there, since the elevators were overloaded as usual and we had to ::gasp:: climb the stairs to the 20th floor!! We did have an interesting interlude at Farshad’s that was worth the work: Peter Woodward was in attendance with his adorable little Asian chippie and he was being VERY naughty!! Whipped cream and nipples were involved… I took a pic, but unfortunately Andy’s camera was being a bitch and it didn’t come out. BASTARD!! We were up til 6:30am Sunday morning.

We slept until 11am Sunday and saw a couple of afternoon panels then we came home to check the kitties. On the way back we stopped at the Vortex for dinner. We attended a couple of panels Sunday night and then hung out. Everyone went to Farshad’s again, but Nick and I decided we wanted to just hang out, so we went to the Smoking Porch. We ran into HDIAndrew and found out that we’d missed all the spanky parties. They were on the 14th floor of the Marriott, apparently. Next year, I’ll make sure to look for the spanky parties BEFORE we head to Farshad’s. We hung out and talked to people until around 2:30am, then we decided to crash.

This year there were lots of panels on Monday, but sadly, the hurricane had guests and attendees leaving in droves. We still did a couple of panels before we left and we had lunch at the Hard Rock with Andy. We managed to load out before the monsoons hit Monday night.

It was a great Con! We look forward to next year!
