Interesting Surveys

I found this site via another site that Nick mentioned a few days ago: Work From Within [which loads only a blank page so I removed the link]. It’s kind of a girly new-agey blog, but she does have some excellent points and a great way of looking at things. Shouldn’t we ALL be doing what we WANT? Shouldn’t we ALL do work that sustains us in more ways than cash? I think it’s a grand goal.

The first site mentioned is authentichappiness.org. It has a bunch of surveys geared towards finding your character strengths, your overall happiness and other self help sort of things. The site is actually supporting a slew of books written by some self help guy. I’m not interested in the guy, but I loves me some questionnaires! Real ones, that is, not the memes that are lame. :-)

These two sites give me much to ponder today.

Monsoon, pt 2

Jaysus christ it’s time to move to the desert! WTF is up with all this rain this year? I can’t even have a garden in this swamp! I’ve recorded about 8 inches of rain in my backyard in 2 days! Naturally the basement is flooded, but it’s very mild considering the amount of rain. No standing water at all, just a steady ooze towards the sump pump, which is running steadily. GAH!

Nick is feeling kinda punky today. Sore mouth and swelled cheeks make for an unhappy weasel. :-(

I didn’t write anything about the London bombings and I may not. It’s been covered so well by everyone else, I don’t think I have anything to add. These bin Laden flunkies will not be stopped. They are too numerous and in too many places. Bin Laden will not be caught and even when he dies it won’t matter. He’ll be a martyr and the terrorists will carry on with their mission. Everyone just needs to face that and deal.

Nick’s Wisdom Teeth extraction

Nick is recovering nicely from his wisdom teeth extractions yesterday. The top ones went fine (and he has them!) but the bottom ones had to be chipped out. The biggest issue was his small mouth. Today he says his jaw muscles are as sore as the jaw itself.

I was an asshat and passed out cold, of course. It was a combo of not enough food, dr office smell, being in a dentist office and seeing the bloody gauze from Nick’s wounds. Luckily for me, the nurse was more aware than I was, so she shuttled me quickly to a dentist chair in the next room. It took about 5 minutes but I did finally pass out cold in the chair. Only *I* can pass out while in a semi prone position. ::rolls eyes:: It was embarassing, inconvenient and silly. I wish I could control this nasty habit. It was the worst falling out I’ve ever suffered. When I awoke I was nauseated and completely drenched with sweat. It was gross and I felt shitty the rest of the day.

Nick made it through the surgery better than I did, overall. How crazy is *that*!! Gawd, I am such a pussy. This is why I am flabbergasted that anyone would find me intimidating. Jaysus! People who say that really have no clue about me.

Today we’re hanging out in the A/C, geeking and generally being quiet. It hurts for him to talk with the sore jaw muscles. He didn’t get much sleep – no surprise, trying to stay upright and all – and I got about 5 hours. I’m sure we’ll nap this afternoon.

RIP BlogXchng

Well, we didn’t get off our lazy asses fast enough to take over BlogXchng. We really were interested, it’s just the timing. With all the stuff going on right now, we simply couldn’t get it together. I’m sorry to let Angela down. :-(

I’m bummed. It was a good idea. As a matter of fact, it’s such a good idea that I may try something like it myself. Sometime.

Anyone know how to write killer PERL or PHP? :-)

I’m sure that Adam guy from BlogSnob is snarkily happy about the loss of BlogXchng since he thinks his service is the ONLY one worth having. Well, we’ll see about that. I still think that more linking services need to be available for bloggers who don’t want ads all over their site.
