Hobbes’ Story

I was still in school – I think it was 1994. My friend at the time, Janie, wanted to get a kitten so we went to her aunt or cousin’s home to get one of theirs from a recent litter. There were only 2 kittens left when we got there. She chose a grey and white furball and that left this little grey stripey furball sitting there all by himself. Everyone knows my soft spot for kitties. I couldn’t leave that little guy all by himself, so I grabbed him and took him home for Andy. The whole drive home I was saying “I can’t believe I just impulsively adopted a kitten! What am I doing??”

I presented the stripey furball and it was love at first sight. Andy is a big Calvin and Hobbes fan, so despite his grey stripeys, the kitten was christened “Hobbes”. Andy and Hobbies were like peas and carrots. We were living in a tiny one BR apartment on Derrydown, but there was room for a furball. Dickens took it all in stride and seemed to like his new little brother.

Tuesday is Monday

We had a wonderful weekend at home, doing home projects and personal projects. It’s our long weekend, so today is Monday for us. Bleh.

We saw Cars on Saturday afternoon, since it was too hot to work outside. It is GREAT! I highly recommend it! Pixar has done some amazing work with animation! Each film gets better and better. We got there late due to the long line at concessions and missed the short, but we plan to see the movie again. If you like animation, you’ve got to get off yer ass and see this in the theatre. It’s well worth putting up with the roomful of sniveling brats and rude black people – and that’s saying a lot!

We totally finished putting sealant on the deck this weekend. We found this stuff by Behr that is a stain/sealant together and it RAWKS. It should for $30/gallon! It has silicone in it and it sealed up our crappy, dead deck. We chose the darkest thing they had: cedar. The deck looks new with the new top rail and it being leveled. Ah! We are all about bandaids to this place and for about $80, we’ve rehabbed a dead deck! Yay! We’re still going to re-do the frame which has come loose from the house and worked loose in general and we may replace the floor at some point. The frame is an easy job so we’ll get it done this week.

We did our standard Vortex thing yesterday in the pouring rain – it was lovely! We came home and did NOTHING for the rest of the afternoon!

Today, we have a meeting with the owner of Masada Bakery, which will hopefully land us a web gig for them. I have to put together a menu of web services for him, so I gotta jet.

My Hobbes is gone

Andy called me a minute ago. Hobbes didn’t make it. His blood pressure kept dropping off and then he went into respiratory arrest. He passed this afternoon. Andy made the decision to keep him from suffering with the lung failure and I’m very glad he did that rather than hold on too long like I did with Dickens.

I only have one boy cat left. ::sob::

My heart is broken and Andy is beside himself with grief. Please send condolences to him at syndromezed at gmail dot com.

This is SO hard. I really hate it when my intuition is right and it’s not in a good way. I suppose this is part of why I never got an urn for Dickens or spread his ashes. I guess I’ve been waiting. I don’t know. Andy is bringing Hobbes home either at DragonCon or the Sleep Meeting in November and we’re gonna have a service for them both and perhaps spread some ashes. It would give nice closure, I think.

Needless to say, Andy still needs help with the huge debt of Hobbes’ illness. If you’d like to help, please use the Paypal button [removed].

We thank everyone for their support during this long week of hell.

Bast has taken her boy home. He didn’t suffer. May he sit in his fort at the window for all eternity.

Hobbes update

Hobbes is still quite an ill boy. They did the esophageal tube for feeding and he is fairly stable. He was supposed to come home yesterday (Sunday) but he had a couple of setbacks and had to remain in the hospital. Andy tells me that Hobbes’ medical bills are at $6600 and still growing, so if anyone would like to help out, please click the PayPal button.[removed]

We appreciate all the prayers and support that everyone has given us.

This last week was a blur. With the Hobbes stress, I was so distracted I was running on automatic. To relieve some of the stress, Nick and I got hammered on 2.25 litres of wine Friday night. And Nick got drunk and he fell in the bathtub AGAIN! I’m NOT making this up! It’s the Shower Curtain Incident Revisited! I think this is becoming some sort of theme…

So, anyway, I’ve got to get to work, I’m behind on Oracle 20/20’s website updates. I was not working until they got caught up with their payments, then Hobbes happened and now I’m a week behind. WAH.

18 Days

Ha! Funny article in Wired News. This guy got a PeeCee and it took 18 days to totally trash it with virii and spyware.

How long does it take to trash a Mac without virus/spyware software?

FOREVAH!!!

Muwahahahaha!

Macs rule, peecees suck and there are about 4 billion reasons why. Don’t bother pointing out the error of my ways. I’m right, NYAH.

You PeeCee users can eat my shorts. It’s 4am and I’m in no mood for your snarky oh-you’re-a-Mac-freak comments so spare me.
