I broke 1000 entries!

This post is #1004 to be exact! Wow! That’s a lot of whining, bitching, ranting, praising, linking and navel gazing!

I write this blog for several reasons. I write to express my thoughts – which are quite tangled most of the time. I write to document where I am at any given time. I write to post my opinions on life, politics and my favourite: PEEVES. Heh. I also write to create an ongoing autobiography for anyone who comes along after me and finds my little life an interesting read – which I can’t imagine unless it’s family. Blogging is the 21st century equivalent to writing letters or paper journals.

We secured a technical executor for all our online accounts and electronic files this weekend, so I hope that our legacies will reach into the future. For non-breeders such as we, it’s important that our legacies go on after we’re dust. In our cases, we need someone who can secure our digital legacy of writings, art, photography, etc. for posterity. Also, I needed a technical executor who could transition all my web clients to someone else, which requires a specific set of knowledge. I wouldn’t want to leave my web clients adrift with no clue as to how to manage their sites and domains.

So, with a new year around the corner and 1000+ posts, I look forward to continuing my legacy. Thank you for reading. :-)

Friday Five

The Friday Five is an olde tyme fad from way back in the late 90s. I know, hard to imagine, right? (whippersnappers!! GET OFF MY LAWN!)

Anyway, some fine soul has kept it going on LJ and this is today’s Friday Five:
1. Do you like the look of your country’s currency (bills and coins)?
Eh. It’s ok. It’s getting better, at least we have some color now (purple!!). I still think we should have different sized bills for the visually impaired.
2. Regardless of their actual value, do you like bills or coins better?
I’m all for a $1 coin. Maybe even a $5 coin. But I tell you, it would SUCK to open your change purse and have a $5 coin go scooting down the air vent, ya know? So I guess I’m for $1 coins, but bills for everything else.
3. What is your favorite foreign currency? And why?
I really like the Euro. I like that all the coins have the member countries’ symbols on the obverse. That’s nice. The next ones would be the really cool Asian coins with holes in them. I just love those!
4. Do you collect coins or bills? Elaborate.
Yes. I collect the state quarters – which just ended – the President $1 coins and the new nickles. I also have a fair number of foreign coins. I don’t collect foreign bills, just coins. I wish I had more Euros, actually.
5. Do you think human society could make do completely without money? Explain.
No. Humans are too petty and greedy to be able to let go of perceived value. While I think barter is an awesome way to go (and I’ve done a LOT of barter in my time), I think we’ve gone too far to be able to say, “Oh, sure, dude, you can totally buy my house with pretty shells, nice blankets and free car washings for 20 years.” Just won’t work.

MS Office fix

If any of you Mac users who have to suffer with Office are tired of the “auto exec” errors when you quit and/or other oddities having to do with PDFMaker.xxx, I’ve found the fix. These errors are due to the Acrobat plugins for the PDF Toolbar that is for PC versions and is irrelevant for Mac users. Of course we Mac people don’t need anything extra to make pdfs – it’s in the OS, but PC people have to jump through many hoops and these plugins are for them. Naturally MS left them in…

Anyway, here is the fix for MSOffice:Mac (all versions).  :-)

Houston, we [still] have a problem

Update: Still having issues with H1.  Nick says that his site is back down. I think mine are all up… ::sigh::

Yah, so the data center that went down is called H1. It’s in Houston. It is on the super fast backbone and provides hosting for a gazillion hosting companies – mine included. Gods.

Any one want to pool our money and make a Mercury Retrograde Shelter? I’m thinking lead lined…
