ACE + Art Shows

I just posted a very amusing story over on LJ that those on my friends list should definitely check out – you’ll laugh, I promise! I can’t talk about it here due to the public nature of this blog, but it’s private on LJ, which is why it’s there.

Anyway, this weekend was really fun and very tiring! We attended the first (reincarnated) ACE con downtown at the Hyatt. We got there late Saturday due to my insomnia issues, but it was OK since the Dealers Room was the biggest attraction for us anyway. The con was just fair, but for $15 bucks, it was well worth it. We see a lot of potential if Pat Henry and the DragonCon empire doesn’t fuck it up. The big star they got was Rosario Dawson of Sin City fame. She’s now collaborating on OCT, a comic being published by 12 Gauge.

We head out to Decatur for the Art House umbrella show. The Art House space is very small and the Umbrella Show was only about a dozen items, so we were only there for about half an hour. We continued on to Doo Gallery for the Sci Fi a Go-Go show by Blast Off Burlesque.

Missy In Repose

Every day that’s sunny, Missy will sit on her mat in the kitchen charging her batteries. (What? You didn’t know kitties are solar powered??)

Solar powered Cow Cat!
Solar powered Cow Cat!

Missy just sits there with her eyes half closed until the sun moves away from her mat.

It’s the most wonderfully soothing thing to watch her, completely happy, completely relaxed, just simply BEING.

Ah, a lesson we could ALL brush up on, right?

Daily Zen

The rain has stopped,
The clouds have drifted away,
And the weather is clear again.
If your heart is pure,
Then all things in your world are pure.
Abandon this fleeting world,
Abandon yourself,
Then the moon and flowers will guide you along the Way.

– Ryokan (1758-1831)

Daily Zen

The entire day I searched for spring,
But spring I could not find,
In my straw sandals I tramped among the
Mountain peak clouds.
Home again, smiling, I finger a sprig of
Fragrant plum blossom;
Spring was right here on these branches
In all of its glory!

– Plum Blossom Nun

Some Zen to get over it!

To be swallowed by the mountains or the smallest violet is to let go and become insignificant.
To lose significance is to retun to clarity.
To return to clarity is to effortlessly express the inexpressible.
