Listy goodness

Today my mind is all over the place, so it’s time for a list. Random thoughts and ideas from the past few weeks that are banging around in my head and need to be emptied out:

  • the Taqueria is finally almost open (tomorrow 11am). Today is the big day for the menu boards and other menus for the store. The Open House was last night and WAY fun! Thanks to Emily and  Lara for hanging out with us!
  • my brain is fried. I keep stopping this post and gazing into the yard – not that I can see anything, I don’t have my contacts in yet…
  • Ferrets are SMELLY. Really smelly. Smelly enough to get into your clothes and ON YOU. Ick! They are cute, but the STANK. Oy!
  • Hedgehogs are hella cute. OMG, they have the cutest noses EVER. Really adorable. I can’t think of a reason to actually have one, but damn they’re cute! They do not smell, as far as I can tell. My nose was full of ferret stank at the time…
  • I love my kitties. They smell good. :-)
  • Did I mention my brain is fried?
  • I hate it when people can’t understand the urgency of being involved in a restaurant opening. Trust me, it’s all consuming. So, if you’ve called and I’ve not called back, that’s the reason. If you’ve called and got me and I try to get off the phone, that’s the reason. If you’ve seen us socially in the last month, consider yourself special – cuz we ain’t got time for no jibber jabber!
  • Sometimes I just want to run around nekkid. Green will understand this. Today, I’m sitting here thinking: “I’d really like to go fill the bird feeders nekkid.” I’ve no idea why this thought occurred to me, but there it is.
  • I still have the Oracle site to do this week. Bleh.
  • Last night I saved Nick from himself. He was strung out from insomnia the night before and on a mission to stay up too late and drink too much beer. I managed to wrangle him to bed under protest at 12:30 or so. Role reversals are always odd.
  • Speaking of roles. I feel the need to reach out and assist confused, addled and otherwise squirrelly individuals. I know it’s a total and complete exercise in futility, but I always have the urge to help them. It must be hard to try to live life when you’re running in circles all the time. I was very fortunate to have been born with a double dose of common sense and I’m grateful for that every day. But I’ve learned to keep it to myself when dealing with squirrelly people. They are so invested in their little confused patterns that they won’t listen anyway. Best to let them run themselves out.
  • I need to make some jewelry. It’s been 2 weeks. I doubt I’ll get a helluva lot done this summer in the silversmithing field. Wah!
  • If anyone wants a Dragon Con room on the THIRD floor of the Hyatt above the bar, please email me. I’ve got one reserved that we will not be paying for. I intend to USE the room, but one of you bitches can pay for it for a change. If I don’t have a taker before we head to CA for Comic-Con, I’m releasing it. You’ve got until July 21st. The transfer fee is $20 I think.
  • Ah, Comic-Con. We’ve got to produce a bunch of comics and get a CC sampler put together next. No rest for the wicked.

Ok, gotta get the menus sent to their various destinations. I’m so freaking tired. Brain. Is.

RIP George Carlin

Well, I guess if you have to go, having a heart attack and dying is a quick way to do it. Carlin had not been ill and was working the week before he died. He had chest pain on Sunday afternoon and was gone by Sunday night. Full Story Here.

Sucks, though. I was hoping to catch one of his shows. He was a trailblazer for all comics that came after him and he will be missed. I’m glad he’s immortalized in the History Channel’s documentary History of the Joke. There’s also an HBO special that is finished but not out yet – It’s bad for ya! – I hope they show it.

I hope he didn’t forget his stuff… :-)

Thanks to Stormy for the heads up on this…

Can you say BUSY?

Just damn!

So, we stayed here this weekend to get the last of the restaurant stuff done for Rob. We are your ultimate all purpose employees. Today Nick cut out tablecloths and I sewed up a couple of small curtains to cover a cabinet. Where else can you get the following tasks handled with the same people:

  1. Hand drawn logo
  2. Sign, Menu Board and T shirt layouts
  3. Small menu layouts
  4. Vendor Relations and Contract Negotiation
  5. DSL install
  6. iPod and other music install
  7. Equipment shopping
  8. Custom made curtains
  9. Custom vinyl table covers
  10. Longterm admin assistance

And probably some more stuff I’ve forgotten in the rush. Where? Hmm? Nowhere, we are just that good! LOL

It’s been crazy, but it’s always fun to be a part of a new restaurant. I’m happy with our work and so is Rob and that makes it all worth it.  :-)

We’re off to deliver the goods and then perhaps grab a bite with our hedgehog lovin’ friends.

Eye Dr & stuff

Well, the eye irritation did not subside (or get worse, either) over the weekend. I saw Richard today and he put me on these more powerful drops. Hopefully only 5 more days of no contacts, etc.

The taqueria is coming along nicely. We’re working like mad to get the signs done and the tshirt graphics worked out, but overall, it’s great. The logo is fabulous and I think the place will be a hit.

I’m tired. We’ve got to travel next weekend but after that… I hope to chill. I really don’t see the BYO Chops party happening. I could still change my mind, but it’s less than 2 wks notice at this point, so. Eh. We’ll see. I’m thinking perhaps I’ll push it to August. Mid August, like perhaps the 16th.

What else? Oh, yes, LJ. It’s just LJ, folks. It’s not real life. You know what? I don’t even KNOW who friends me or not! It’s just not a big deal to me. So, sorry if I’ve ruffled feathers by the cleaning of the LJ. It’s NOT personal, dig it?

::sigh::

Too tired and BLIND to type any more. Later.

Weekend wrap

Dear gods in heaven. Have a little peek into the good, the bad and the ugly of my current state of mind:

Good:

  • New pellet gun arrived on Saturday. Nailed a squirrel with my first shot. Heh! Didn’t kill the little bastard, but got him in the head and ass. They jump 2 feet in the air when you pop ’em, which is horribly funny. I hate having to do it, but the good news according to my Dad is that they will leave when I pop a few of them. He said you don’t even need to kill them, they will get the message and leave en masse. Suits me. I didn’t relish the killin’ part, just the fewer squirrels part. (Yah, yah, I am in touch with my inner Tennessean, but still. It’s the shootin’ I like, not the killin’. Yeehaw!)
  • Missy’s kitty bed arrived and she loves it. <3
  • Despite being tired and overworked, we did have a nice visit with Dave this weekend. We are hellishly behind now, but what the hell, it’s only SANITY at stake, right?
  • Goldi picked up her iBook and all’s well with that. It was good to see Ruth Esther and to meet Carolyn, too.

Bad:

  • Eye allergies suck. Wearing eyeglasses also sucks.
  • Not getting DICK done on the menus and such for the Taqueria sucks, too.
  • It’s too frelling hot. Oh, yah, NO SNOW. Right. Bleh.

Ugly:

  • Nick totally trashing one of my “good” kitchen towels while working on the faucet. AFTER I told him not to fuck up my good towels. NOT PRETTY. I was pissed the fuck off and yelled and threw things and slammed doors. Do not fucking do something that retarded after I specifically tell you not to. Dumbass. What is it with the Y chromosome? Just damn.
  • I’m too disorganised and tired to get anything done for the Taqueria tonite. Which means total balls to the wall working like a fucking fiend tomorrow. Feh.
  • Hours wasted tomorrow going to go see my optometrist for this godsdamned allergy. FUCK.

Please for the love of my sanity, people, just don’t call me this week. I’m losing my mind with stress and too much work. I really do NOT have time for chitchat or any social interaction. Unless something dire has happened, please just hold your phone calls until next week, ok? By then the Taqueria will be open and the main work of menu boards, signage and T shirts will be done. Then I can chitchat about bullshit without wanting to poke your eyes out with a fork.

Along those lines, there may not be a BYO Chops party. Sorry, but at my current stress level, having a party is completely out of the question. I’ll make the decision by Wed this coming week.

K, luv ya, bye bye.
