Yesterday was a wild ride! I went in to the Moon to get checks signed, etc, only to fall right into the vortex of Restaurant Drama! Their DSL was out, which means that the whole POS system was down. Not good. No credit cards can be run, no gift cards, no getting into the backend of the POS system – nada. So, I’m immediately put into geek mode.
On top of all this, we get a call from the Northlake store that their DSL is out, too! ACK! Rob calls Bellsouth and they are nonchalant about Northlake. Yes, they say, this is a planned outage and it will be out until 3pm. WTF?? You plan to take down DSL at a MALL with no notice to the stores?? GAH! So, we know there’s nothing to be done about that (other than get some serious credit from those fuckers at Bellsouth) and we turn back to the Decatur problem, which is apparently not related to any Bellsouth shenanigans.
I was at Decatur until around 3pm dealing with all this. As it turned out, it was the DSL modem that had died, but it still meant a ton of work for the manager who had to do all the checkouts by hand.
I had to go to Northlake to pick up some files, so I get there and discover that the damn DSL is still out at 4:00pm. I call those fuckers at Bellsouth and they are still unconcerned when they inform me that now the outage will be until 6:21pm. 6:21?? How the hell they got that I’ll never know. I didn’t hang around to find out if they made that goal, but I can tell you that we’ll not be paying for a month of DSL at Northlake because of this.
It was seven hours of craziness, but I tell ya, it was fun. It’s rare that I get to do what I do well, which is put out fires and get things handled. I think Rob and I make a good team when the chips are down. I got everything that needed to be handled handled yesterday. Here’s what all I did:
– took care of bills
– mailed the bills
– troubleshoot DSL issues
– dealt with Bellsouth tech who came to fix the DSL
– dealt with Bellsouth customer service to get 2 weeks credit for both stores for the outages
– walked to Ruby Tuesday’s and Taco Mac to borrow credit card slips
– handled ordering more credit card slips
– straightened out a billing issue with a vendor
– figured out another billing issue and left a msg with the vendor
– called Bellsouth again about the continued outage at Northlake and got 2 more weeks credit
– got the new manager’s info for direct deposit
– did all the filing
– delivered a loan payment
– delivered calculator paper and tortillas back to Decatur from Northlake
Then, when I got home, I talked to Jody about the party, called Dave about the no-go for the DJ gig, talked to Dru about the Hercules deck, talked to Ben about his plans to get down here and helped Ted Naifeh with his hosting/domain issues.
Whew! Days like that are long, but exhilarating when you’re used to a low level boredom most of the time!
Now, I’m so stoked for the party! I can’t wait for everyone to show up tomorrow! I’m off to get my day started.
Everyone have a wonderful weekend!
