Recently, I realised that I hadn’t been to the gynecologist in over 2 years. I’d been going to the clinic for a decade+ and they had always been fine for pap smears and birth control pills, but when I decided to stop the pill, the clinic also had budget cuts and started going downhill. They used to send you a postcard when it was time for your pap smear but they don’t even do that anymore – hence my missing one.
So, we were going to this ghetto dentist in a small office complex and I noticed a place called Holistic Gynecology. The name brought forth some funny images in my head (sage, anyone?) and when I told Nick we had a giggle. A few months pass and I am reminded about my pap smear as I walk past that office again to go to the dentist.
I’ve got a laundry list of problems with my body that I believe stems from being perimenopausal, but the people at the Clinic never took that seriously. The problems started when I went off the pill 4 or 5 years ago and have gotten steadily worse.
I knew of only 2 ‘holistic’ gynecology places so I researched the locations of the two and decided to go to the one near the dentist. I had NO expectations, I assumed it’d be just as ghetto as the dentist and I’d end up getting a pap smear and looking for another place to go.
Gods, was I WRONG. The Holistic Gynecology office is small and very clean. Dr Callaway is AMAZING. She asked me lots of questions – actually talked to me about my issues – and by the time we’d finished talking, she had mapped out a plan to get my body under control. I was stunned.
She recognized my symptoms and to my surprise they are mundane. She can talk intelligently about Bach remedies, herbs, vitamins and overall care like no MD I’ve ever seen. Holistic indeed. She gave me a list of supplements to get, gave me a CURE for my lingering infection that the Clinic said was “incurable”. She gave me progesterone to control when my period shows up. CONTROL IT. She was calm, matter of fact and made me feel like I was NOT the only girl in the world to have all these fucked up things going on.
She told me I am crazy, but once all this shit is under control all that will pass. It was such a relief to talk to a Dr with some sense. I cried with relief when I told Nick about it. I can’t explain the weight that’s been taken from my shoulders. I’ve had the pieces of what I need to do, but being in the middle of it and CRAZY, I’ve not been able to formulate a plan. Dr Callaway stepped up, whipped out a list of what we’re going to do and brought order to what has been chaos in my head and body for years.
I am giddy with validation. Giddy. To have a Dr tell me that all my issues do, indeed stem from perimenopause is so very empowering.
I’m impressed. I’m amazed. I found a Dr with sense and a Dr who really does treat the whole person and uses every method at her disposal: herbs, Bach, vitamins, diet as well as traditional meds. If you need a gynecologist who will actually listen to you and help you, Callaway is the one to see. Oh, and all this only cost me $195. She hooked me up with samples and freebies so I only have to buy 2 pills. TWO.
If you need a great gynecologist, go see Dr Callaway. She RAWKS.

I am so happy for you! NOTHING beats a good doctor who will LISTEN to you, take you seriously, and, you know, HELP YOU. I’ve felt that relief before and I know there is nothing else like it. If I were in the area I would definitely pay her office a visit. If any friends closer to you are looking for a gyno, I’ll have a sound recommendation for them. =)
Well, halle-fucking-lujah! I am SO relieved and happy for you!!!
I am glad you found someone to help you finally!
