Weekend report

So, another DragonCon is under the bridge. This year we helped out our pals from Florida, Echo and Lazarus Chernik. They drive a big ole RV to cons all summer and you just can’t park that thing in downtown Atlanta, so they parked it here at Casa Mizgala and we shuttled the booth + art back and forth in the Ranger.

We put on an art reception for Echo on Saturday night at the Courtyard Marriott that is tucked away next to the Westin on Carnegie St. The room was perfect for an art reception and Echo was pleased with my quickie catering. It was VERY fun and VERY tiring! Echo debuted her exclusive DragonCon print at the reception and we intend to do that again next year. Hopefully it will be a DCon tradition!

Overall, I have to say that I really do prefer working cons to just attending/partying. You meet many more people that way.

Echo gave me a giclée print (Seafood, part of her 12 food pieces) for helping out with the reception and made me cry. It’s really too much!! But I adore it and can’t wait to get it hung. THANK YOU seems inadequate for such a lovely gift! We can’t wait to do it again next year – it will be AWESOME!

I got the house cleaned, groceries procured and the laundry caught up yesterday so today I’m futzing on the intertubes and generally just laying around. :)

Gotta get my thank-yous done, too. Ah, I love organising stuff. Maybe I’ll find a job doing it!

Cons, work, etc.

It’s two weeks until Phoenix Comicon, which we had to cancel this year. It’s bothering me a LOT that we’re not going. I mean, we’re totally not ready to be at that con as vendors, but I was so wanting to go. ::sigh::

But we do have Heroes Con in Charlotte the first weekend in June, so that’s helping assuage the sting of missing PHXCC. Seeing our name on the Small Press page is pretty dang exciting!

We’re totally not ready for Heroes, either, but buttons are on the way and so are a few T Shirts. We’ve decided to produce the comics ourselves so there’ll be LOTS of folding and stapling in our future! I don’t think you’re ever ready for your first con, actually. I’m really glad we’ll have friends at our table and next door to give us support!

I’ve got a client who’s decided to finally put up a full website, which is cool, but she’s very hard to satisfy artistically, so I’m a little anxious about it. I hope I can give her the look that she wants. ::fingers crossed::

I’ve got some friends who want a site for their store, which I’m doing for fun. I’m really glad that we’re all on the same page with the slow pace – otherwise I’d be really stressed out about it.

I’m feeling basically fine still. I’m not having the desire to kill small animals in the backyard with my bare hands, which is what some people experience with Effexor/Pristiq. I still want to shoot things, but that is normal for me. ::giggle:: I borrowed an Airsoft pistol from Sonya’s son to pop Mr Pants in the ass and try to discourage him from fighting with DJ. It probably won’t work, but it’s worth a shot. Heh, heh. SHOT. Get it? I kill myself!

I got my member package from the High Museum and it’s got two passes. Who wants to see the Allure of the Automobile exhibit with us? If not that, then there’s Dali coming in July.

I’m off of Facebook today because it took hold of both my browsers this morning and frankly, I’m afraid of using it. I don’t know what kind of jackassery they’ve got going on over there, but I don’t like it. I think it was an errant script. It has to do with their new marketing scheme that revolves around “all your surfing are belong to us” no doubt. Fuckers. If I didn’t run pages on that stupid site, I’d have dumped it already. But you can’t run pages w/out an account, so there ya go. Can we all go back to LJ now? PLEASE? FB can eat a bag of dicks with a side of smashed assholes.

Ok, off to flop on the couch and try to cool off. I got all hot and sweaty hauling groceries. Buh.

It’s Friday and almost 5pm FTMFW!

Hells yah!

It’s been a long week and I’m so looking forward to our cheating weekend. Our diet is stringent during the week, but we can drink on the weekends, so WOOHOO!

Got the first pass of the dentist site sent out – of course they don’t work on Fridays, so I’ll not hear back until Monday.

Speaking of Monday, that is the first meeting of the Atlanta Cartoonists! I’m so stoked!

Tomorrow, I think we’ll go check out the tiny little Sci Fi Summer Con up in Marietta. I’ve not heard from Caroline/Dru, so no clue if they are going or not.

There’s a cool event going on at Alcove Arts: Art B Q! There is music tonite and an all day picnic/BBQ tomorrow! We might venture over there to check that out later tonite when it cools down.

And here’s a pic of my poot head orange stripey cat who hurt my feelings yesterday:

Rotten DJ after making me CRY!
Rotten DJ after making me CRY!

But for now, I shall go forth and wait for my booze bearing Weasel to arrive with libations! Have a great weekend y’all! :-)

In other news…

Aside from being in Joomla! hell, I’ve been a busy little beaver today. I’ve added a new plugin to WP (Gallery NextGEN) so I can do some cool stuff with my headers. I did the next round of tweaks to the Taqueria menu. I cleaned out and organised my bookmarks. Lots of little things to make my digital life neater.

When I was talking to Paul (the owner of ITX my web host) last night, he told me that John Travolta’s site is hosted with them and they’ve been running wild trying to stay ahead of the traffic. When his son died, Travolta’s site was hammered. It was just a little ole shared server site and they had to not only move it to its own server, but they had 5 servers plus a load balancer on it to keep it up last night. And even that was to the brink of overload. Crazy, eh?

We had dinner with the Piazzas Saturday night after seeing the disappointing movie The Spirit. (Frank Miller: do NOT direct EVER again.) Dinner was delightful with YellowTail Shiraz, Spinach Dip starter, beef tenderloin au poivre with pepper gravy, haricots verts in citrus sauce and loaded smashed potatoes (baaaaaacon!). We had a delectable green tea crème brulée for dessert. Mmmmmmm. Our tummies were SO full! BIG shoutout to Stormy and Mistah J for having us over. :-)

Hmm, what else? I’ll be happy to get back on a schedule. Nick is finally back to work tomorrow and we’ll be on the diet bandwagon once again. Bleh. My wrist hurts, so I’m gonna call it a day. L8r!
