Moving on!

So, I’ve heard from 3 of the 4 web clients about the hosting and all that. Surprisingly, the ones I figured I’d have to hunt down got in touch with me first! The metal stamp guy is good to go, I’m moving him to GoDaddy (gods, their CP is SHITE). Once he’s moved and I’ve tweaked his site just a bit, I’m outta there. The insulation guy called me a few minutes ago and he’s going to need a bit of help with his stuff, but that’s fine. He’s doing the same thing we are, changing his company name and putting up a new site and I’ll be doing all that for him. The gallery folks have not contacted me yet, and I doubt there’ll be much drama there. They’ll probably move to GoDaddy since they manage their domain there already.

Speaking of domain management, another client uses Network Solutions for their domain just because they always have. I logged in to change the DNS info and had to laugh at this stupid splash screen:
Because you can't TM "website". :-/

Just like the suits at SciFi, I love people who just aren’t comfortable unless they have a â„¢ next to the name. And I’m sure people wrote them saying “Yanno, I just can’t deal with this ‘website’ term! Could you come up with something really stupid and trademarked so I can remember it better?” Riiiight. SciFi changed to Siffy (SyFy) so they could â„¢ the name. Well, apparently the suits at Network Solutions feel that calling a website a “website” just wouldn’t do since it couldn’t be trademarked. STUPID. Which is why I don’t recommend using Network Solutions. They’ve been caught taking domains from people to sell to corporations and they are basically a bunch of SUITS who are not the least bit techie and therefore have no sense of what’s OK and what’s not. I’ll betcha they all have secretaries who print out their emails for them every morning…

I’m pleased with the progress I’m making toward becoming IndigoDragon Studios and I’m happy with how the clients are handling the transition. I hope everything keeps going smoothly!

Now: on to Friday!!

Weasely updates

I’ve been quiet lately because I’ve been busy with some changes we’ve made around Casa Mizgala. Guess I’ll just go down the list, but first, we got tweeted by Dog Eat Doug today. SQUEEE!!! He retweets many comics, but it’s still an honour to get noticed! Here’s the Twitter window:

And here’s a new fan because of DeD’s RT:

New fan: Rhea!

Beeyooteeful Sunday!

What awesome weather! That means that we’ll be 100º and 100% humidity into October, no doubt. Wah!

It’s been a lovely weekend all round. Caroline and Xia visited yesterday then we just had a quiet night. Today has been futzing around here for me and Nick pressure washed the front porch then washed the cars. Such a sweet boi! I think we’ll order pizza and camp out on the deck for a bit tonite. We *could* go out, but why? Our deck is pretty dang awesome if you ask me!

Tomorrow will be comics and The Porter. Kate needs to measure the bathrooms for the art she’s gonna paint in there. Hopefully it will keep the ghetto assed taggers from tagging all over them like they’ve been doing. I can’t wait to see Kate’s work! It’s gonna be COOL!

I’ve boxed up the old Crescent Moon site and am fixin’ to do the same for IndigoDragon. We are officially changing the name (IndigoDragon Studios) and the direction of our company. The direction will be, of course, COMICS. After the clusterfuck with the Harpies on this last web gig, I’m DONE. No more. I’m retiring from web design.

I am very excited to officially be changing this stuff over. It’s been in the works for a couple of years and it feels good to get rid of the old energy and replace it with new energy. Working on the new logo is SO FUN!

So, that’s where we are. I’m off to order that pizza and crack open a beer. It *is* 5pm, after all! :-)

Rainy Monday Bleh!

Soooo. FCBD was teh awesome! It was nice to be out talking to people. BTW, if anyone would like a Weasel Sampler, just shoot me an email with your snail mail and I’ll send one to you. I’ll also have Nick put up a pdf for downloading this week.

Heather’s birthday was huhyooge! They had to bring out an extra table to fit us all! Of course the tab came up $50 short like it always does, so we ended up spending more than we should have, but whatevs. We went to Twains after Vortex and got home by around 1am.

Yesterday kind of rushed by. We did stuff, but I dunno, I looked up and it was 4pm. WTF? We watched Little Miss Sunshine (finally) and it was funny but not half as amazing as we’d heard. It was a good movie, but not a great one. I like Steve Carell when he’s acting – as opposed to imitating Jim Carrey. The teenage son was the same kid from There Will Be Blood.

This week I’ve got to wrangle our April receipts and round up some household crap and old clothes for the American Kidney Foundation who will be coming round on Thursday. Rob’s Macbook needs repair: he’s got the motherboard issue where the power supply will not charge the battery. I also plan to rework the IndigoDragon logo. We have decided to change the name of the company and website to IndigoDragon Studios. We think it sounds a bit more artistic and will cover the comics side of the biz better.

I also plan to put some crap on eBay this week. Anyone need 2 Special Forces tactical vests of the EXACT type they wear on StarGate SG-1? This model was discontinued so these vests are actually worth something to costumers. I got them last year when I was thinking of doing StarGate costuming, but then decided that it would cost too much to put together the costumes properly. And I got bored with the idea. Heh.

Speaking of eBay, we got a 12″ Cintiq yesterday!! W00t! A Cintiq is a type of Wacom tablet, but rather than a tablet that you write on and see on your monitor, it’s a MONITOR that you write directly onto. They go for $999 retail and we got ours for around $800 after shipping. We totally do not have the money, but it’s a biz expense, so it’s justified. Just as the G5 Nick is getting to run the Cintiq is justified. He really needs these things. Thank gods for lots of biz credit!

Oh, and a heads up: Mercury goes retrograde (Rx) on Wednesday. Expect weirdness, confusion, mayhem and general all round squirrellyness until the first of June. It’s best to not sign contracts or start big projects during a Rx. It’s more of a time to reevaluate, reorganize, reinvent or any other RE word you can think of that doesn’t involve starting new things. Personally, I’ll be reinventing IndigoDragon. The Rx works out great for me for once! :-)
