What a long trip it’s been!

2 weeks on the road is tough stuff. Lots of shlepping, riding in taxis, riding on trains, more taxis and finally BART. We’re here in Walnut Creek (East Bay, San Francisco) at a lovely little place called Diablo Mountain Inn. We’ve got only until Sunday to enjoy being near the City (San Fran) and I fear that I won’t get as much time there as I’d like.

Amtrak is pleasant but slow. We didn’t get to the Inn until 11pm  last night thanks to Amtrak running late (as usual) and Nick didn’t sleep well, so I’m currently cooling my heels waiting for him to get up from a nap (begun at NOON PDT, thankyouverymuch) and get shaved for tonite’s festivities. We’ve got a family dinner tonite and a birthday party for his grandfather tomorrow then we are free from family obligations. Well, *I* am, I don’t know what he might do. All I know is that I plan to hang out with Ted and Kelly and Serena and do some shopping in China Town before I head back home. I didn’t come all the fuck the way up here to sit in the motel room in freaking EAST BAY listening to traffic.

Nick is appalled by all the shlepping and shit involved with travel, but he’s green. Not like I’m a globetrotter or anything, but I know from experience that travel is just like that: shlepping and riding various modes of transport. The key is to have your goals and find a way to cram it all into the always too short time allotment you have. You can sleep when you get home, after all. ;-)

So, I plan to drag him to the City this afternoon and get in a little sightseeing – maybe the Cable Car Museum. Then we’ll come back here and get ready for the family dinner tonite.

Cheers!

Oh, and a HAPPY BIRFDAY to Russ!! Have fun at the Vortex!
