Bailout 08: $700+ Billion

I’m cranky. Very, very cranky. I knew that the stupid Bailout would happen but not only did it happen, but they pork barreled it up to $850 Billion rather than the original $700 Bil. FUCKERS. We all know why it passed: can you say lobbyists?

Our Rep Hank Johnson voted NAY. Bless his heart. His vote didn’t mean shit anyway, but bless him for heeding the pleas of his constituents. Too bad he seems to think that the Orphan Works bill is a good idea… I’ll have to harass him some more for that one, I think.

This is a fucking travesty. Fucking politicians couldn’t have possibly read and analysed this huge document in one day.

Well, I hope the future generations who are getting stuck with the bill for all this bullshit won’t mind. It’s just another few hundred billion on the ole USA Credit Card™, no one will notice, right? RIGHT?

Clearly no one who is running this country has a clue what the word deficit means and why it’s bad, mmmkay? DAMMIT.

GAH! I’m so irritated. This is a very clear example of government gone wrong. Why should WE bail out Wall Street, hmm? They got themselves in this mess let them figure it out. Other methods have been put forth, such as fees for trades like the UK has. But why do that when they can get literally BAZILLIONS of dollars from the good ole USA Credit Cardâ„¢?

OMG. This has gone way, WAY too far. It’s time to clean out the politicians who voted AYE. This is a clusterfuck of mammoth proportions.

Bush gets his way AGAIN and screws us one more time before he leaves; a nice parting gift, if you will.  Good luck, Obama. You’ll need it.

Get out there and write your reps!

Atlanta Gas bullshit

It’s amazing to me that people in this town can’t calm the FUCK down and let the gas supplies get replenished. Yes, there is less gas flowing due to the hurricane. Yes, we can’t get the low sulphur kind that we should have, BUT the EPA has waived that rule so we can get replenished. We can get caught up if everyone would give it a fucking minute!

The problem is PEOPLE. Stupid, stupid people who keep going back to the gas station to top off when they have 3/4 of a tank. DON’T DO THAT, OK?  If you have more than, say, 1/3 of a tank, and can make it to work for a few days, then WAIT. I swear they should check the gas gauge of cars sitting in line (burning more gas) and if they are more than 1/3, they should be kicked out of line. We shouldn’t even have lines! What is this, the 70s? Jeeze.

Nick has around 1/3 of a tank of gas. We calculated that it takes about 1.6 gals of gas per day for his commute in the truck. He’s got about 6.3 gals which yields a little under 4 round trips to work, if he burns the reserve gallon, which is not a good practice. I’ve got around the same amount of gas in my car, so we’ll get through this week, but be fucked by the weekend. In any case, our search for gas is not urgent at the moment, but we’re still gonna keep our eyes peeled.

And now all the companies run by morons who refused to let their employees telework or work 4 day weeks are whining that they can’t run their businesses due to the gas shortage. Wah, wah, wah. I say FUCK YOU for being such backwards bitches that you haven’t set up telework already. If this town had embraced alternative work hours, shorter work weeks and telework years ago, we wouldn’t have the sprawl, pollution and panic now.

Stupid middle aged men who have never checked their own email are the ones who refuse to implement telework because they staunchly believe no work will get done. Assholes. Telework has been viable for years. If CEOs weren’t such technophobes much of the mess that is Atlanta now could have been avoided. But NOOOOOO.

So, to all the companies out there who have refused to budge on managing your employees in a greener, more responsible manner: THANKS BUNCHES FOR FUCKING UP ATLANTA.

Assholes.

It just gets better

I turn on CNN for the latest on the stupidity and instead hear a little report about preachers who are demanding to be allowed to stump for politicians from the pulpit. The Alliance Defense Fund is calling it Pulpit Freedom Sunday. They are organising preachers everywhere to preach politics in direct violation of the laws separating church and state and providing churches with tax exempt status.

The opposing forces are Americans United  and Project Fair Play.

Now, I think that a preacher can say whatever he or she wants to say. Go for it! But be ready to lose your tax exempt status. It’s that simple. You want to be a political church? Great, you are violating one of the main tenets of US Democracy and you will no longer retain your status as a non profit religious entity.

State matters such as politics and religious matters should NOT cross. Separation of church and state is in place to stave off theocracy. Theocracy like Iraq and all the other middle east countries. Theocracy like England was when this country was set up. Theocracy that will cram religion down the throats of all citizens – and it will be the hyper Christians that do the cramming.

So, go ahead and preach your politics. You’ll be reported and you’ll lose your tax exempt status. It doesn’t bother me one little bit.

Assholes.

Welcome to the Socialist States of America

The bailout plan was rejected, thank the gods. It doesn’t really matter, though, it’s going to happen one way or another. The government will give them money and/or take over the institutions. That $700 billion plan was just a bandaid anyway. The housing market is more like $12 trillion, so $700 billion is chump change. It’s all about giving money to the executives who’ve paid for their politicians fair and square. In Washington, that’s perfectly logical.

In other disturbing financial news, the government has seized another major bank. Yes, another one, Washington Mutual is NOT the first, it’s just the first that’s been widely publicised. Along with Lehman Brothers, there’s also American International Group which was seized last week to the tune of $85 billion. These are very bad omens indeed.

Bailouts are not the answer – restructuring is. Bailout is just another term for entitlement, which is apparently the new American Way. Why work when the nanny government will hand you money if you whine loud enough?

I’m a socialist when it comes to healthcare and education. I feel that everyone in the richest country in the world (maybe not for long) should be able to go to the doctor and get as much education as he wants with no penalties. Being charged $1000s for 5 stitches is a penalty. Student loans are penalties. This must stop.

However, I am most definitely NOT a socialist when it comes to the financial markets. Government seizure of financial institutions is a very bad idea. The mortgage industry collapsed because of bad or nonexistent regulations and pressure from citizen groups such as NACA to give loans to people who could not afford them. You cannot tell me that people in the upper echelons of the mortgage industry as well as the financial regulators in charge of The Fed (hello Bernanke, you stupid FUCK) didn’t know that giving every poor asshole a 5 year ARM wouldn’t result in massive defaults when the 5 years are up. Even politicians are not that stupid. [Well, YES, they are, as we now know in 2021. -A]

Speaking of that dumb fuck Bernanke, (whose main pastime is blaming financial institutions for problems caused by ALL areas of government, especially HIS) he is of course pushing hard for the bailout package. Hey, why not? It’s not his money and everyone knows that the US Treasury can always make more money, right? RIGHT?

The asshole politicians running this country are reaping what they’ve sown. Reaganomics was the beginning of all this shit, true, but this is not all the government’s responsibility. What about the CITIZENS? Voters have put these assholes in office and voters have sat around counting their “stimulus” money waiting for something to magically make things different. Voters hold all these fucked up mortgages that they could never afford in the first place. Voters are the ones who have become whiney people who feel entitled to anything they want no matter how much bad credit is run up.

Do you think the Federal budget would be anything other than a reflection of how the citizens manage their own finances? Of course not!

The government is gazillions of dollars in the red, yet here we go spending gazillions more to “bail out” institutions that orchestrated their own failure. And let’s not forget to pay those poor, poor CEOs their severance pay. Yes, let’s make sure it’s ONLY $400,000 each. OMG, poor things, how will they ever survive with only a $400,000 reward for fucking everything up?

Hey, I’ve got an idea, pay ME $400,000 and watch me create an empire. I’d be a much better investment than some asshole who is a multimillionaire already.

How’s that for a novel approach? How about we reward the people who are doing fine rather than the rich who beg for government rewards for their bad luck? I say fuck ’em all. Let the chips fall where they may. Those of us who made good decisions will weather this recession just fine. We are not rich, but we can manage our money and pay our bills.

The “bailout” will not bail out anything. It is a bandaid. The economy will still tank and we’ll still have a recession. I’d say now’s the time to get your ducks in a row and brace yourself for a sucky few years, folks. The ride will be rough, but if you’ve managed your finances right and made solid decisions, you’ll make it.

It’s almost enough to make me feel sorry for the next sucker who is president. Almost.
