Chambliss Wins!

I’ve been particularly mum on the election cycle this year for obvious reasons. It was crystal clear that Omama would win a year ago. So, why debate it?

We had a runoff election yesterday between Martin and Chambliss for the Senate seat and by some miracle, Chambliss won. I am really surprised – shocked, actually – that anyone from the Evil Party aka Republicans could win any election anywhere this year. I hope that it was all the negative ads that Martin ran that turned constituents away from him. I hope that it was Chambliss’ support of the Fair Tax. But ultimately I’m sure it’s just the fact that outside of the ghetto, I mean Atlanta, this state is Republican all the way.

Whatever, I’m just glad the damn Democrats aren’t getting their total and complete control of all branches of government like they want. The fact that the two party system allows this at all is a problem.

This is why the two party system sucks ass and ultimately does NOT work.

And this is why I vote Libertarian. Until we get a third party on the ballots, we will have this pendulum effect. A third party would do so much for the politics in this country.

I doubt it’ll happen in my lifetime. Just as I doubt the Fair Tax will happen. But I can dream, right? :-)

Galaxie Fever – again!

Yes, yes, I’ve had my obsession for quite some time, but I got into a conversation today about Galaxies and now I’m tweaking to get one. I found the most wonderful page of Galaxie history today, I just had to share!

The 1961 Starliner was the model my Gran had. White with a red interior. SWEET!

I’m actually sort of lusting after the 1963 model. I really dig the taillights. Judging by the drool inducing write up, I’m guessing the 1963 model year is generally considered the pinnacle of the Galaxie. That’s when they added the “500” to the name as well as the XL line. Yah, there’s a restored one for $15k… Better price that I’d have thought. But this, yes, THIS is a 1961 Sunliner… OMG. They’re only $25k or so!! I know, I’ll get a third mortgage on the house! Yah, that’s it!!

::a few deep breaths later::

Damn, I want one of these. And I shall HAVE IT.

Mark my words.

It may not be next year or the year after, but I will own a Galaxie convertible before I die. Oh, yes.

Nick needs to block me from eBay Autos… It always makes me get too excited and ready to take out loans… Hell, Craigslist, too! LOL

Good Advice

Advice comes from everywhere: friends, parents, acquaintances, talk show hosts, etc., etc. But good advice is a bit harder to come by. I’m very fortunate that I have a handful of wonderful people in my life that offer good, sturdy advice and I try very hard to listen to what I’m told and more importantly to practise it.

That being said, I’ll also acknowledge that sometimes the lessons are just not learned the first 100 times and you’ve just got to keep going over it until it’s completely grokked (definition of “to grok” here). This goes for the advice seeker as well as the advice giver.

Which is the rub. As an advice giver (the ratio of giving to asking for is about 10:1), it’s my lesson to learn that I cannot do anything more than offer verbal advice. I am a Jewish Mother and I worry about the people I care about. I can’t help it. I want them to be happy and healthy and to create lovely serene spaces for themselves. I want them to rid themselves of chaos and drama and “friends” who keep them in the chaos and drama loop, dragging them down. But I can’t do it for them. And often my words are simply redundant and ultimately useless.

This is a very hard lesson for me to learn.

Thanks to a friend for pointing this out and helping me to learn to back off and not feel inadequate because of it. You are a very wise woman and I’m beginning to realise just how much you have to teach me – as well as how much I need to learn. I hope I’m up to the task. :-) This is yet another example of “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear”.
