ATL Weather and Moon Phase

Maiya @ Powermax rocks some Apple hardware deals!

Arabian Chickpea & Eggplant Stew

This recipe was in the paper, but of course I changed it and made it 45 mins rather than several hours. I also added turkey to it, so you can leave that out for a veggie version. Doing so will change how much liquid you need, so you’ll have to eyeball it.

Figs with Goat Cheese

This appetizer is from Anne Burrell with little modification other than the ham. It’s simple, quick and VERY delicious!

Pint of Mission Figs (10 or so)
Chèvre (goat cheese), any flavour. I use Fig flavoured!
Ham or prosciutto (original calls for prosciutto, I use plain deli ham)
Balsamic Vinegar
Olive oil

Cut off the stem of the figs and [...]

Common Cooking Mistakes

I’ve been cooking since I was about 8 years old. That’s a looooong time, friends and neighbors!! As such, I often take for granted the things I know to do from sheer habit. I started thinking about this last night, so I figured I’d pass along some of my cooking wisdom to those of you [...]

Angela’s Beef Rub

And sometimes chicken, too! This is the best combo I’ve made recently for my flatiron steak. Happy grilling!

1tsp sweet paprika
1tsp hot smoked paprika
1tsp granulated garlic
1tsp onion powder
1tsp cumin
.5tsp coriander
1tsp salt
1tsp sugar
1tsp ancho chile powder (optional)

Keep in a glass jar for freshness. This makes about 3/4 cup powder.

Angela’s FAST Carnitas

Two words: pressure cooker! Braising for the impatient! This is a pressure cooker recipe, but it would work just fine in the regular oven (350ºF for 1 hour per pound should do it).

3-4# Pork roast (tenderloin is good or shoulder if you can find one small enough)
Dry Rub (Garlic powder, onion powder, seasoned salt, [...]
